Hi i am new here and i have been visiting this site for a number of months an have found a ton of very useful information that’s helped me in setting up my business.

I went out and purchased an older SC500 with heaters and have over the last few months restored it from parts it needed, flushing, heads etc.

I am now looking to convert over to bulk ink. I remember reading that the SC500 is not particularity advanced in cart chip technology. I read in the Roland manual that you can pull out the cart an push it back in an the ink levels will reset? As i now start to convert over one of the smaller genuine carts has run out of ink and the machine has a ink error or cart empty error. My new clear carts do not have chips on them. Am i right that once its reach and detected a empty cart i cannot restore it, even in the service mode? Will i have to go out and purchase a new roland cart just to clear the error?

Im stumpted as how all the bulk systems are running? I have not seen anywhere on the service manual where i can turn off the ink level sensors unless im not looking properly.

If anyone can help that would be appreciated or at least point me in the right direction of getting this error cleared.

    Thank

Thanks Mo for all your help it has been very handy i will look into all your advice you have given and get back to you asap.

I got some useful info since posting, so for the benefit for EVERYONE in the same boat, here is what you need to do.

    1) In the menu, setup ink control to ignore/continuous.
1a) Even if ink empty error occurs the bellow steps still work.
    2) remove all the oem chips from the roland carts keeping each colour specific to the new carts. This is very important the chips are coded and serialized for each specific colour.
    3) Screw on the oem chips to the new clear carts and insert them back into the machine.
    4) Fill the tanks with bulk ink and turn on the machine and follow the prompts on the screen. The screen is pretty obvious. You will fill the drain prob around 1/2 way by the time your finished and takes i would guess 20-30 mins. Its really annoying pulling carts out and pushing them back in etc until it runs through all the steps.
    5) If profiling is needed there is useful info from the ink carrier if your went with a reputable one or online.

P.S You will need 3 flush carts once you do the above. They do not have to be roland flush cart by the way so dont spend anymore than you have to.

I hope someone finds this useful for the future. I am no pro but im happy to help freely if i can help.
