Hi All, my bronze contract with roland is due for renewal, I’ve had it for about 4-5 years now and this year it going to be £1,134.00 for the year. Apart from a yearly service i might have called them once to come out to a problem. What do you do? not sure if i could insure the printed to cover repairs if ever needed it just seems a lot of money for just peace of mind. any thought appreciated jean

I’ve had the same dilemma annually for several years. Last year I had an engineer come in to do the service and he decided that one of the heads need to be replaced, he changed a couple of pipes, wipers etc and also made one or two adjustments via his own software. I think that lot would have cost me more than the annual fee.

As an alternative I have the name and address of a former Roland engineer whose charges are somewhat less but obviously parts are still the same cost, however he needs paying in full on the day. I will more than likely need to employ his services in the future as my machine will soon be older than Roland are prepared to warrant.

I remember during the second or third year I had the machine 2 heads were changed. It’s a gamble for you and for Roland.

This must be such a dilemma. As a service supplier I can’t suggest what you do either way, but the thing is, as it gets older, things are more prone to breaking down. Power supplies, logic boards, cables, belts etc all have a limited life span. In my experience, these things go wrong in the first few months of running or not until they’re a few years old.

You could try shopping around and see if somebody can give you a similar (or even better) service for less money. Or, try and find somebody not too far from you (to save on travelling costs) and just pay as and when you need it. Typically it will fail as soon as you don’t renew your contract 🙄
