Roland PC600 & corel 12 – start up help please?
Posted by Jason Bagladi on 9 November 2005 at 21:19Hi
I have just purchased (but still waiting for delivery of) a PC 600. What do I need to do to print and cut using Corel Draw 12? Are there any pitfalls I should avoid?
It will be used for short runs of stickers.

i can probably help you with some of the corel 12 issues, but i’ve no idea about the plug in you’ll get for the plotter, or the cutter either !

Finally figured it out – Colour Pallette – New – CutContour 😀
Right some more problems 🙁
Prints OK but very, very slow.
Could be LPT1 set up??
When print is finished and it cuts out, it always misses abit of the cut contour (always in the same place – left hand side of the contour for about 5mm)
Any help appreciated.

Jase What do you mean by slow? PC600’s are not the fastest machines on the planet.

About 15 mins for a bit of text about 250mm x 50mm done in CorelDraw!!

hi mate in the same boat as you
well not really mine is cutting and printing OK just have to make it cut and print what i want
firstly log on to http://www.rolanddga.com
all the technical stuff inc drivers etc are there read through and go through the basics are you running xp the drivers are there
i have been working today on mine from corel 12 i will go back over my notes and try and do a 123
make sure you have printer set up OK i am on lpt1
persevere with it i am over the moon with the results thus far and i am sure once you get it sorted you will i have been sending very simple 4 spot colour work changing cut outline colours etc
you can do loads of tests on very little vinyl and use minimum ribbon
do the basics clean vinyl print head etc make sure the back of the PC 600 is clean where the vinyl feeds in on mine where the edge of the vinyl was running both sides there was a build up of dirt off the edges of the vinyl
Nicola and the rest of the PC 600 team will sort you out
so stick in
i will post a couple of picks of the test print and cuts i have done in the appropriate forum for dissectionpc 600 D 😛 erek

Hi Derek.
Thanks for the info. the roland web site is on my favourites! Still no real progress though. It will do all the test prints, and will cut from artcut2002 and VMP (need to sort out layout as it cuts where I don’t expect it to!!), but with colour printing and cutting from Corel, it is really slow. Tried loads of different settings, but with no joy. Any info based on your setup would be appreciated. Will also speak to Nik tomorrow.
Your pics of cut / print samples look good. Hope I can get the same quality.
Where is the best place to get spares? I need a new plastic cutting strip, head cleaning pads and head cleaning pen.Jase (should be 😀 but currently 🙁 )

Thanks for that Nik!
Just starting to get thinks figured out.
1. Ribbon Save mode slows everything down (well it does for me!! 🙂 )
2. If you set your design at the very edge of the sheet for printing, it misses the last bit (right on the edge) when cutting.
3. If i could just sort out where it will print/cut on the vinyl based on the design layout, I would be very happy!Jase
For a part time business, this is a full time job!

Back again!! I’ve been working away so not had much time to play with the PC600.
A few questions
1) What thickness does the contour line (CutContour) need to be in Corel. If I set it to hairline, it doesn’t cut. If I set it thicker it seems to cut twice.
2) When it does cut, it is ofset to the print by about 1mm above and to the left.
3) Why does it feed so much (about the same as the print area length) vinyl before it starts to print.Just received some free ribbon samples from Thermal Product. Same product, but cheaper than PrintOne.
Jase 😕

Jase 😕
It will automatically start printing from the position at which you lowered the roller lever. So if the vinyl had been pulled out by a couple of foot or so it will automaticaly rewind to this position before it startes printing. You need to set the “Base point” i.e press the button that called “Base point” when you first set up the machine with the vinyl in the start position (See the manual for a full explanation).
Sorry – can’t help with the other questions as I only ever ran mine using Signlab.

Jas,
I never had a pc600, but spent a bit of time looking at them.
You need to give the Hairline a colour, Something like pink , that is not being used in your print, then set that as the cut colour, thats what I remember, may help but, Im not usually much help am I

Sorted out the contour cutting. 😀
Print / cut off set nearly (still not quite right though)there by altering the blade offset in RCC. 😀
Think I have figured out where it will start printing. 😀
Results are promising. Just need to change the head (brand new one supplied) as I’m getting thin lines through the images. Thanks for the info guys.
cheers
Jase
