Roland PC 600 carriage adjustment problem

Recently replaced head on Roland PC 600. How do I adjust the carriage
position on all 6 ribbon holders?
Followed service manual but I couldn’t adjust only #4. Visual inspection
shows that some of the others are off. (Especially #1) Very hard to print when carriage exchange is off. I snap ribbons repeatily;Thanks for the Chat

had very little to do with a 600 but the manual says you only adjust no4 then save, then run the exchange test if wrong start again.
the sequence is a bit round the houses a easy to miss a bit mucking up the whole thing
if you say you have done that correctly then as it had a bad crash to damage the electrical data cable may be something is lose or bent. -

The test with the #4 holder finds no problem with adjusting as this holder is dead on but the exchange cycle finds the alignment better than 1/4 inch
off on #1 therefore fowling up the exchange.
As mentioned ribbon snapping is a common occurence.Thanks

last time i spoke to a service guy in the states said that they only supplied the head if they fitted it for a reasonable all in charge.
to wards the end of the manual there is a lot on ribbon snaping and special adjustments when fitting a new head, related to snaping.
does the head move freely across its full width ?
just need to go through the tests etc. one by one
can’t really offer much more sorrychris

Probably take a look at this thread, I had the same problem a while ago. It does all it’s setting up on cartridge 4 but should save all the settings and work for all the cartridge positions. If the reflective strip is dirty this might be the issue…. as was in my case.

Thanks much for reply. Yes carriage moves thru the entire travel path.
Will work on some fine tuning on ribbon snapping. I will check out the
thread given by another member.

Also try turning off the ribbon saver feature as that caused me a lot of trouble with snapping ribbons,
Like Chris said earlier – you’ll need to go through all the steps in the service manual relating to a new head fitment and load the correct heat TEI file that came with it.
You can easily go around in circles with something like this.
People still use these machines (including me) so I’m sure we’ll able to sort it.Alex.

Explain to me what happens on pc 600 when the exchange test takes place.
To me the service manual is vague on this, of cource it could me me rather
than serv. manual. I have no problem in following service manual up to this point.

follow the manual and save the adjustment do what it says next and it will do a cart exchange test which requires only one cart to be in the machine in the no one slot.
it will then pick up the cart from the one position and put in to two and so on you can leave it running like that for a while. if there are any failures then start at the begining again.
you must take care to follow the lights instructions and when to lift and replace the front cover. else it all fails -

Thanks much for reply. I am still confused on how to interpret the part about lights, cover, etc. I have no problem up to that point. Evidently the numbers
refere to lights but then the part of spaces to left or right come into play.
Could you go into more detail?Thanks so much for patience with this newbee.

i am poor at explaining and its not easy.
when the manual tells you to do something it also says which lights are on or blinking if you get it right.
opening and shuting the front cover is part of the sequence and must be done at the right time.you must read each sentence carefully and do as says then check that the correct lights are on before going to the next step.

As Chris as stated, once you have aligned the white scroll gear with the middle of the cartridge by looking directly from above (no 4 i think) you’ll have to save the settings and then the machine will go in to an exchange test starting with cartridge 1 and then through all of the 6 cartridges. Once the pickup of all positions is complete and ok you just have to lift the front cover up to finish the test.
It’s difficult to explain as the service manual refers to blinking lights and button presses at stages throughout the cartridge pick up adjustment procedure. -
