I don’t really know much about it only that it’s old technology.
You’d need to check if you could get the ribbons/foils easy enough.
As far as the type of work it can do I’d say small decals and labels, maybe safety signs.
I guess you’ll get some better answers later as I’m sure there are some members who have or have had these machines.

i personally wouldn’t waste your money its ok for small sticker runs, but its slow and very costly to run, i would dig deeper in your pocket to buy a more up to date printer, there very reasonable now second hand 😀

had mine from the day they came out and for small stuff can’t be bettered.
its expensive to run about £50 SQ mt in 4 colour mode.
on small stuff its laser + quality on to standard gloss vinyls.
its main use is for specalised small spot colour work like met silver/gold on to gloss black.
ribbons still available from roland and print1.

because or the fine settings of the motors for the print quality the cutter is fantastic at intricate cutting. bit slow compared

down side its old and the parts are drying up. the head is lifed around 15klm of print. but is £400/500 to replace. roland no longer support it at all.

it can have its problems as it not that strat forward to use and would generally steer people away from it unles they have a particular use for it.

Thank you for you very helpful and informative replies.
I shall wait and save for something better I think.
Are there any dealers in second hand print and cut machines?
I really need to learn about the different printers, my background is litho print and they are completely different processes
I think the perfect machine for me would be a roland versa camm, but at present these are out of budget.
    thanks again
    Steve
