Roland DG Announces New Generation of CAMM-1 Professional Vinyl Cutters,
Delivering Best-In-Class Features and ProductivityRoland DG Corporation, a leading manufacturer of wide-format inkjet printers, printer/cutters and vinyl cutters worldwide, today announced the launch of the GR-640/540/420 professional vinyl cutters, the latest additions to its CAMM-1 series.
According to Yohei Shinomura, product manager of Roland DG’s digital printing business, the GR series has been completely redesigned from the ground up to deliver best-in-class cutting quality and productivity due to increased accuracy, speed, media versatility and additional state-of-the-art cutting features. The new ergonomic L-shaped design of the integrated stand and machine provides the stability required to ensure precision cutting even at high speed. The redesigned cutting carriage, blade holder and other core mechanisms enable the machines to achieve a maximum cutting speed of 1,485mm/s and up to 600g of downforce for cutting through difficult media with a single pass. Models are available in 1,651mm, 1,397mm and 1,075mm cutting widths to allow users to pair them with the inkjet printers they are currently using.
Shinomura said, “The cutting industry has become increasingly diverse. In addition to sign making, cutting now includes the production of window and vehicle graphics, window tinting and car protection film for automotive restyling, personalised apparel, labels and decals, packaging prototypes, paint/sandblast stencils and more. The breadth of applications demands the ability to handle a wide range of materials of varying thicknesses, such as window films, high intensity reflective materials, heat transfer materials including flock and glitter, cardboard, and sandblast mask.”
To meet the variety of applications and materials required by today’s cutting industry, the GR series is equipped with electronic pinch rollers that can adjust the pressure to 10 pre-set levels at the touch of a button for smooth feeding of any media thickness. The overlap cutting function allows for up to ten times overlap cutting for difficult-to-cut substrates. The intuitive overcut function emulates the results from a tangential cutter and delivers sharp, clean corners on challenging media.
A host of innovations make the GR series extremely easy to use. The cutters are capable of reading crop marks on pre-printed data to accurately align graphics. The bundled Roland CutStudio features a perforating cutting function that is convenient for making die-cut effect stickers and decals, and a cut-by-colour function that is useful when outputting designs with multiple coloured sheets. A new function automatically creates weed lines for more efficient weeding after designs have been cut. Roland CutStudio includes plug-in software that allows outputting from Adobe® Illustrator® and CorelDRAW®. A media basket is provided to collect cut sheets.

Following on from the exciting announcement of their TrueVIS SG Competition, Roland DG are pleased to reveal that their latest technology will be on display on their stand (H30) at Sign & Digital UK 2017, from the 28th-30th March.
Visitors to stand H30 will be the first in the UK to have the chance to see the brand new CAMM-1 GR-640 cutter in action. Completely redesigned from the ground up, the latest addition to Roland DG’s wide-format cutter series will offer users more versatility than ever before. Offering increased downforce and state-of-the-art features, the GR series makes cutting a host of different media and thicknesses a simple job. With improved features such as electronic pinch rollers and an overlap cutting function, the GR series is built with professionals in mind.
Alongside the latest hardware, Roland DG will also be demonstrating their latest software innovations.
Roland DG’s VersaWorks Dual RIP software will be available on the stand, with Roland DG’s experts on hand to discuss the many benefits this RIP software provides to end users and interested visitors. Developed specifically for Roland DG technology, the versatile software offers a combined PDF/PostScript engine, as well as unlimited queue settings and a predictive ink calculator.
For the first time in Europe, CREATIVE MEDIA MAKER, developed by InClix, will be on display, giving visitors as taste of what’s to come for the future of the sign and graphics industry. Offering a cloud-based platform for the creation of professional graphics and video content for both print and digital signage, CREATIVE MEDIA MAKER perfectly complements Roland DG’s print products.
As with previous years, Roland DG’s stand will include the latest and greatest products the company has to offer. Both the TrueVIS VG-640 and SG-540, Roland DG’s latest eco-solvent series of printer/cutters, will be on the stand for demonstration and discussion; the ideal solution for businesses looking to add high-quality print to their business without compromising on speed or reliability.
