Roland Cut Studio software
Posted by Stephen Mott on 14 October 2011 at 09:38Hi All,
Could anyone please advise whether this software, (supplied FOC with certain Roland cutters), is capable of saving a file in HPGL (.plt) format?
If the answer is yes, I need to acquire a copy PDQ.
Wouldn’t expect a copy for free though.
Thanks in advance.

Probably the most frustrating part of the FOC cut studio Roland software is the fact that you cannot save anything other than cut files for cut studio, so you do all your editing of nodes etc in Adobe illustrator or other program and import into cut studio . Howeve rif you import an image to be be used for contour cutting, you can save it as a cut file with the registration marks, for future use.

Thanks for the update Graham.
I’ve tried Inkscape, but was unimpressed with how quickly and easily it stopped functioning properly. At the end I couldn’t even save a file.
I have removed Inkscape and am trialling Signgo.
OK so far.
Thanks for the response.

Just my two pence worth but, I recently went with VMX software which does everything you are looking to do for both print and cut, worth downloading the trial version, they also do a lite version for cut only but the the trace and vector features are superb, and in my opinion much quicker than Illustrator etc.

Graham,
Yes I have looked at this software, and I will be needing an R to V facility, but it seemed that there were ongoing costs associated with its use, is this the case?

It can be mis leading, but no there are no on going costs, it is re newed on line automatically every year. It is registered on one machine, so if you change your PC you have to de register and then re- register the new machine , also the on line support is second to none.

Graham,
Thanks for the update, it does seem a very good program, I’ll download the demo.
Have you tried many vectorisation programs, or is this just better than the previous one you used?

I have tried a lot of vectorization prog’s, including ink scape and the most expensive ones, the best by far (IMO) , is within VMX using the trace feature, very smooth results, requiring little or no extra tweaking. It is so much quicker than any other program and the results are superb, I should add I don’t work for them.

Please get back to me if you have any questions relating to your downloaded demo software, first thing to try is bring an image in and go to trace, very quick.
