    Hi All

I am very new to this site, I have been in the sign trade for 20 years and have been following this site for a few years but have now just opened an account and thought I would ask for, and try and give some,, useful advice, covering most areas of the trade.

I have been given a roland camm1 pro 1210 by a friend who has bought a new plotter and says it was causing him some problems and wanted to upgrade, so I decided to take it off him and see if I could get it to work,,,,,,,

On inspection on trying it out, it seems to work and respond ok but does not cut circles true, almost slightly oval,, is this a problem with the plotter or the driver software, I have tried adjusting the weights etc but with no joy,,, it is running off a pc, via a usb connection, ,,,

I guess it needs a good service so if anyone could point me in the right direction ,, that would be great,,, I am based in the west midlands if that helps,,,

Cheers guys and gals,,, look forward to a response,,,

if the machine is old and used well, something you may want to try before contacting a service engineer.

You have a knife holder which slots into a sort of clamp.
there will be a knurled projecting wheel of some sort that allows you to tighten the knife holder.
the actual casing/part that holds all this runs back and forward down the gantry of the machine. however, that part can work loose and create a bit of play over time.
take the casing off this part and check that any screws etc visible are all tightened and secure.
move it about a bit and see if you can feel any play at all… if there is play, then this will create issues like you are seeing on your text/graphics.
i would imagine it more noticible on smaller text than large, but still is there.

i mention this because he have had several Roland cutters over the years and although great built machines. wear and tear like this does happen on heavily used machines.
when i used to run ours i would always strip them down a bit, give a good clean with a vacuum, clear gunk and tighten anything i could see without delving too deep. sometimes even a little grease on the larger moving parts after a good wipe.

you may also want to check the cutting strip is not worn. they are cheap and easy to replace. they are just stuck in a groove with double sided tape.
but be sure to clean well once removed and when the new ones in place make sure its in tight and completely flat.

    Cheers rob

I have taken your advice, took covers off, tightened up everything visual around the knife holder, seemed reasonably ok, and not too loose,,

I took other covers off , and found the fans casing broke , !! the one underneath the plate where the vinyl material passes over,, the fan works fine ,,, so guess i need to open up bottom completely to re glue?? hopefully ,, to hold in place,, or replace with new ,,

Guess this aint got anything to do with the cutting problem, but obviously needs addressing,, one thing i did do is open up the side of the plotter where the buttons are and xy move motors,, and the cogs on the x axis motor did not seem to be meeting tight enough so managed to tighten them up and now seem alot better and cleaned ,, going to get fan sorted before i try it out,,,

thanks again and will let you know outcome,,,,,, :lol1:
