  • reverse cut vinyl on perspex issue help please

    Hi All,

I have an issue with reverse cutting vinyl and applying it on perspex in reverse. I had to do a 2 colour royal blue and white but the problem i had was when I applied the white vinyl text it was fine but when flood coating it with the royal blue i had 2 issues.

the first being i could see tiny bubbles of trapped air. I dont mean the type which you can pr1ck with a pin and it goes away. I mean really tiny and quite a few of them when you see the perspex the right way round. This was because of may be dry applying it via the laminator.

the second issue was where the edges of the white vinyl text was there was gaps of air and the blue vinyl didnt adhere properly even after using the dryer.

just wondering if this sound familier and if there are any solutions??

    thanx

    🙂

the air sounds like silvering, heat when applying or wet 😮

you really sure it was clean after fitting the white letters

if you flood coat over lettering you will have a air edge, design it out with a gap or cut the lettering out of the blue and apply the white letters after, i inline by .25 mm to help the kiss cut fitting.

    Thanx Chris,

Got it so next time heat or wet apply the floodcoat.

and would u say that applying letters on top of large vinyl areas is obviously fine and normal but backing any graphics with a floodcoat is a no no?? unless the graphics is for example the letter "A" and is cut out on both the vinyls and registerd to fit, to avoid the air gaps on edges? also u mentioned

" i inline by .25 mm to help the kiss cut fitting" what do u mean by this??

    thanx chris 🙂

Leave it for a few days and it will look fine.

believe it or not but vinyl "breathes" – the trapped air will escape which will solve your problem.
