  • Replacing existing panels in panatrim framed sign

I have to replace the boards on a 16ft x 4ft sign. The panels in there at the moment are 5mm foamex. Would I be alright replacing them with 3mm dibond/alucolour or can anyone suggets anything 5mm that might be better. The panels need to be yellow and I don’t want to use foamex. I wasn’t sure if there was a perspex/plastic type material thats a better quality than foam?

also is there any other potential pit falls when doing this type of job?

    Thanks

    Stuart

No Anything like Dibond or alucolour is fine because it will be heavier than the foam thats in it and wont expand or contract as much.

You will have to check the frame will take the additional weight ( they might not have fitted it properly) and you need to make sure what you use won’t be too loose and you use a correct size hanging strip cover plates etc.

what signwriter has said is certainly correct as usual with the hanging strip being the most important as you won’t be buying 5 mm dibond. So the strip needs to be firmly glued & small self tappers into at least 8 mm strip if you are going to use 3mm / 4mm dibond
    Good luck.

As LJ has said you will need a deeper hanging rail if useing 3mm sheet, plus make sure you check which type of framing it is to ensure you put the rail on the right side of the board!!
