Replacement a-boards
Posted by Jon Stephens on 20 November 2007 at 14:05Hi
Our home town council has put a ban on A-boards in the street.
Anyone have any suggestions of what I can sell to these customers that are not A-boards ?
Thanks
Jon

Go for plan ‘B’ :lol1:
Seems to be a major problem in a lot of places now due to the obstruction issues, but why not start something new here………….
Im sure this topic will get tons of suggestions, but my best idea would be to use a large litter bin.
- It will provide a medium to apply the advertisement to…
Provide a service to the local area (saving the council money!!)…
Potentially a good loophole to get another form of advertising on the streets…
See what happens???

That was done here in the high street and the council are fighting to have it removed, a local business covered a wheelie bin in advertising and chained it to the high street because there are no recycle bins on the street so he said he was doing his part in recycling. The council have asked him to remove it but he is standing firm.
Just a word of warning 😉
cheers

I can see the point on a wheelie bin, but I would go for something like this, as it is more aesthetically pleasing and looks like it would belong on the street………..

Surely it doesn t matter how you attemt to put something on the pavement if its public areas the council will ban it
some shops local to me have still got a piece of sidewalk directly in front of their shop that years ago was a garden , so is still their property, they keep boards on there -
A question slightly off topic: Do you need permission from the council for a wall mounted swing sign? 😮

Chain something like this to a lamp post !
Job Done

Only if you think they’ll notice 😉
No seriously, if it’s attached to the outside of the building – and it’s not replacing like-for-like, then yes, they normally require permission.
Some places still have a bit of a loophole for ‘temporary signage’ – ie. whatever you like for up to 1 year so long as it says ‘temporary sign’ somewhere on it. (eg. no planning required for banners on the property of the owner)
We’ve had a ban on ‘pavement’ signs within 1 street of the main High Street area…other than that it seems a free for all

Most councils here have a maximum size allowable, I could be wrong but I think it is the same in most of the country. If you notice all the Guinness and Heineken signs on pubs, they fall within the no planning required size. Anything bigger or on a preserved or protected front requires permission and the criteria will be whether they are in keeping with the existing building.

I don’t think you’d be allowed to drill into the street, lol.
However, you should ask the council office to mail you the details of the ban and what is specifically banned, then you may find a loophole, or with the aid of the fellow UKSBers 😛
