Removing vinyl from glass – advice
Hi all,
typically when removing vinyl from glass I would just soak with soapy spray and attack it with a razor scraper, however, I’m about to do a job on around 30 large windows of frost … barely 3ft away from an indoor swimming pool, The vinyl has been on for years and looks to have slid down the glass – it’s inlikely to just peel off nicely..
I really don’t want bits flying off in all directions and wondered if the wallpaper steamer trick is safe to use on glass?

Never tried it, but after watching the video below, you can soak it off.

The soaking merhod doesn’t always work, it depends on the strength of adhesion . Also, the video is of a 3M product.
Personally with a spray of lubricated solution and a Triumph scraper I’d have that window stripped cleaned and refitted in half the time it takes him to get the original off -

Definitely don’t use a wallpaper stripper on glass unless you want to pay for new windows

i use a wallpaper stripper on large jobs. I had a shop last year to do, Over 30 windows 2m high by 3m long full coverage that were over 20 yrs old. I cut vertical strips about 300mm wide, heated and pulled it off at the same time being careful not to stay in one play for more than 5 secs. It worked great and removed most of the glue at the same time.
I think you just need to be careful and use your brains.
