  • Removing adhesive from dibond?

Posted by LeeMorris on 10 December 2007 at 18:41

    Hi All
I’ve been working on a dibond panel sign and its been a git from start to finish.
The other day i ran out of masking tape so i used some sellotape to old some letters in place. What a mistake that was.

What can i use to get the sticky stuff of the panel? i have tried a bit of meths and water but it looks like its going to mark the panel.

    Cheers

    Lee

‘Stick stuff remover’ / ‘tar remover’

    …or petrol.

White spirit or turps would probably be better to start with, less chance of marking the surface

Lee try whatever on the back off the cellotape first to see if it softens the glue. then try a bit on the reverse side of the dibond for any reaction.

    Better safe than sorry

If it’s factory finish dibond then brake cleaner should do it – BUT USE SPARINGLY and carefully.

Buy some Rapid Remover from Rapid Tac.
    Better safe than sorry.
It is very gentle to substrates.
You could also try putting a piece of good 3M masking tape over the adhesive marks and burnishing with a squeegee, that may take it off too.

without having to invest in anything i think the white spirits left for ten minutes to soak on it will do the job fine. its not the best/fastest but will work. once its off clean down with meths.

3M Industrial Cleaner is my first choice for any job like this. No solvents, just lemon & lime. Lifts glues and grease like a dream.

Nitric acid and a belt sander always works for me. 😮

Failing that, put some sellotape on an offcut, leave it a while and replicate the problem, then you can find out what works best for your particular problem by trying them all and have a reference for the future.

Any of you guys use the Servisol label remover available in Maplins or the Maplin own brand of the same stuff.

It’s a handy service aid product that’s makes removing vinyl glue residue
from sign panels quick and easy.

OK it’s not as cheap as white spirit, but if your using it in a customers office
the lemon smell is more acceptable and no worries about spillage on the carpet
    🙂

My old boss always called cellotape ‘the devils adhesive’ This is something he was actually right about!
