  • Removable Vinyl or suggestions to go on Limo.

Posted by Roy Roberts on 12 March 2005 at 08:24

    Hi All,

Have customer who wants me to cut and fix 2 colour vinyl to a removable re-usable vinyl to advertise his Limo at shows.

Wants to put it on either his windows or bodywork and peel off and replace when needed.

    Whats the best to use?

    Thanks in advance

    Roy

Roy, reusable and vinyl don’t generally go together too well 😕 but he might get a few uses out of self cling material. If you use removable vinyl it will only get stretched/distorted when removed and pick up bits all over the back in no time – not too practical! To be honest though I would have thought that this was the perfect job for magnetics ?

i would have surjested a pictorial A board he can keep in the boot – level thinking with magnetics though

I would also suggest magnetic signs, he can put them on, take them off and store them no problems at all.

    😀

    Thanks for the suggestions,
unfortunately the limo is aluminum and fiberglass so magnetic is out.

think the a board might be the answer.

Will let him know there is no other way Monday.

Many thanks again for your help.

    Roy.

If its a Lincoln style limo, the back windows are relatively flat, presumably tinted also. Could you not use a reasonable sized piece of static cling, printed up in white on the Edge? This would stand out like a christmas tree and probably be reusable providing he keeps it clean. Iit should work in theory. 😀

    Cheers, Dewi

Edit: Just noticed, Nigel suggested a similar thing.

    Roy,
I have an American friend whose family in Florida run a streched limo business. I have been to florida to stay with them. They had removable magnetic signs on this one huge vehicle, as well as a stick on t.v. ariel (shaped like a giant boomerang.)
What they did was to remove the inner material of the double doors and glue magnets on the inside of the outer door skin thus allowing them to have removable signs on the outside.
Might this be one avenue to consider?
    regards
    Andy

    Thanks for the replies,

Andy: He wont go for any tampering with the motor, as per norm he has convinced himself that there is a simple way to do it.

Nigel & Dewi: Is it possible to fix normal vinyl say Mactac 9800 to self cling and let him use that or would it not work.
    or
Dewi mentioned printing onto self cling would this be viable for him.

The reason I’m asking is i have never dealt with self cling and would like to give him as many options as possible.

    Thanks again

Roy, I have used standard vinyl on clear self cling before but it’s a git to put down and as soon as it shrinks at all it will go all wrinkled up 😕
I’ve also printed this on my edge and it seems to be no problem at all though you cant use duracoat cartridges for some reason.

there is a company called svl who specialise in car trade graphics. they claim to have re usable vinyl although I suspect it could be window cling. I think they have videos of it being applied on their website. http://www.gotosvl.com
