  • Reducing fumes…

Got a Mimaki full solvent printer and am looking at reducing some fumes and noise that the machine gives out. Currently plan to section off the office so that the printer has it’s own area.
It’s already vented out an external wall. Has anyone found any other solutions that worked well?

We just bunged the JV3 in its own room and vented out the wall like you.

We find that keeping the media at room temp makes for better prints and so hence the room on its own keeping the media company!

I don’t find the JV3 noisy….it is the sound of profit!

as for the fumes all you can do is vent it…..if you can have a separate room all the better.

The only advice I can offer is that I understand the solvents used are heavier than air – therefore, any extraction fans fitted should be at low level to maximise their effect

Gel filters in the air-con returns works well. Also a carbon filter hooked up directly to the extraction pipes on the machine works well too as long as the lid is closed and the flap at the front has been pulled up!

As suggested previously, the solvents are heavier than air, but I have found that with some reasonable air flow in the room, some gel filters in the aircon return on the roof will pick it up fine.

If you want to use a filter and keep the frontlid closed I have a tip too:
Put a piece of foamex between the two feet of the printer on the back.
This way you create an almost closed space 😀
