10mm foamex won’t warp if fitted correctly. Diabond on locator’s won’t look clinical. You could also use clear perspex using mirror fixings for fixing to the wall. Flame polished would look cracking.

Even 5mm Foamex won’t warp indoor. The temperature is generally very stable (unless it’s above a stove or under a heater) so it doesn’t suffer from any significant expansion or contraction. Some d/s tape on the rear…job done.
10mm – rock solid, and you can use capped screws or even decorative studs.

coated / coloured di-bond with rounded corners & on studs…but at £5 each, enough reasonable sized studs will be a significant material cost.

A di-bond tray…not really the cheapest option if buying in, but cheap is you can do your own – looks ‘solid’ and high quality.

The polished acrylic is a nice way to do them…but changing prices in the future is always going to be a pain & may degrade the clarity. And at 3m x 0.9m it’s a big old lump of acrylic!

What’s the name of a material that’s got a thin outer surface like foamex, but has a black inner core and is suitable for external use ?

There’s a sign on the unit next door to me and it looks strong, but lightweight.

Sounds like Dibond.
