  • Recommend a decent/affordable cast digital vinyl

Posted by David Hammond on 31 July 2012 at 14:31

After my crash course in wrapping, I’ve got a job come in where the customer wants an oversized full colour logo printing and applying to their Caddy Maxi van.

I’ve not used a Digital cast vinyl before, so I am looking for recommendations for an affordable cast and laminate.

Air release would be nice, but not essential.

** By affordable I mean not a full blown wrap material, or a ridiculously expensive film as it will probably sit on the rack for over a year before it’s used again.

Metamark MD7 is a proper vehicle wrap, and is available in 15m roll, so this may be
an option. It has re-positionable adhesive, and the matching lam is available in 15m
    rolls too.

grafywrap is good (I dont know if ive spelt it right)…easy to fit and more forgiving than the MD7 tho good too… is a two person wrap material…. you could spend quite a bit of time popping ikkle bubbles…we tried both side by side in my training.

all above are good, also an option is the Oracal air release which comes in 10m rolls from Robert Horne.

    Beware !!

If you do not do a lot of this it is best using best material to make job easier

IJ180 and IJ380 form 3M are best and easiest to use and you can buy very short rolls charge the rate you need to make a profit and the job will not come back on you.

Spoken from experience of many years of trying to do it cheap

Cheers Guys I am awaiting a quote for the Oracal vinyl, and will look into the 3m and Metamark prices.

I’d be more condident working with an air-release as this is the first ‘proper’ job I am doing.

I am not trying to be cheap, I have charged the going rate for the job, I just don’t want £1000 of vinyl and laminate sitting on the shelf for another 12months.

    Update for you all.

I had a cracking conversation with Gill from William Smith, not pressuring me to buy their products, but offered some sound advice. 10/10 Gill.

Order is placed for a 25m kit of their IJ180, as I will probably have 22m of it left after this job so thought the control tack might be useful in the future.

UKSG account opened within the 1/2 an hour, price list sent, order placed and will be here tomorrow. 😀 If only other suppliers would take a leaf out of your book. 😀

    Cheers guys & Gill. 😀

I will second that David, I phoned William Smiths about some vinyl & Gill was really helpful, had no problem opening an account after that & although I will never spend a fortune with them when I phone I get all the answers I need.
