This is a job we did last week…
complete floor area and lower section of walls has been flood coated in white vinyl. then black cut vinyl graphic curves applied on top.
reception desk and benches have all been faced in toughened glass mirror.

Fantastic and interesting job, but working in an office like that would do my head in 😮

Was this just a simple pattern repeat, or did you lay the whole floor out, then cut?

I thought about the epilepsy thing too.
What type of business is this for?
    Just curious.
It looks quite dynamic, but I probably wouldn’t even be able to walk across the floor!

Robert have you provided them with info on how best to try and keep it clean ? Would have thought how it is cleaned would be quite a big factor in how long it would last.

Not sure I would fancy working there though with that pattern on the floor, guess it will be broken up a bit once all the office stuff is put in.

I recon that pattern is only there so people can’t see all the bubbles :lol1: :lol1:

that is surprising, you never know where your imagination can take you 😎 was that their idea or yours Rob? I do wonder what foot fall will do to it though, specially ladies in stilettos

I love the way the desk and benches almost ‘float’ due to the mirrors. Would do my head in too though!

Thanks for all the replies folks…

    Graeme,
all the white is laid first then the sorta fan graphic in black is continually repeated but changing direction etc i think we used about 120m x 1230mm of white by the end of it and about 200m x 1230mm black.

    Phill,
Yes your correct mate… this is a floor my brother came up with along with the mirrors, desk, bench, cushion colours etc as has been said by some already. the idea is to try and make the furniture disappear so it appears like a wide open space with the cushions floating. or something like that… :lol1:
This is my older sisters company, so my big brother decided what was being done and we supplied and installed. the floor is based on work he did in A Glasgow gallery – GOMA

    Harry, John…
This is second floor that this actual room has had done. the first one was the striped one similar to this one shown that he did abroad.

the first floor was laid in just the same way and must have been down 4 years without any problems. by the end it was getting grubby due to dirt catching in it and scuffs like you would get on a school bag appearing on the floor.

    Jill,
This is the entrance to my Older sisters Theatre School in Glasgow city centre. specialising in Dance, Acting, Music etc as mentioned she had one before but due to the start of a new season she was giving the place a freshen up and a bit of a change for the classes all starting back.

    Martin,
what you see is the finished artcle mate… no more desks or chairs or anything else to go in. this ios the reception area to the studios and all the students, classes eetc congregate here checking in at desk before heading to classes.
as mentioned mate, they had another floor down done exactly the same, just different design. from what i know all the cleaners used was a mop and soapy water.

    Lynn,
ide estimate there are thousands walking all over it every week lynn.
stilettos do leave slight impressions but not when walking about on it. they found that women waiting on their kids coming out of class often stood in the same spot digging their heels in unconsciously while bored waiting. still stood the test of time under pressure.
The first showing of this floor design was in the GOMA in glasgow and that floor, done the same way as this one, had 310,000 people walk over it in only two months. i did not see how it looked after the show but was told it held up extremely well with only wear and tear at the main door area.

few more pics at different angles here:-

thanks for all the replies… 😀

Did you apply the vinyl onto a concrete floor or is it a timber floor ?

Just as an aside, reminds me of when I used to live in Greece; getting off the ferry after 24 hours I always made my way to a friends pretty posh restaurant and they had a similar black and white effect on the floor too, only in marble. It was a 5-10 min walk and I never felt strange until I entered the restaurant, then it was immediately like I was drunk again (partially true after 24 hours around the bar area on the ferry), I always staggered about crashing into things much to the amusement, anger, worriedness of any guests and diners.
Could sit looking at the ceiling for 1/2 hour then felt better until I needed the loo then I had to go down some very wide stairs with same design on the steps, back to square one immediately, had to hold on to side rail with both hands as I went dowwn and up again….. very strange…

    Love it!….very inspirational

..although I don’t know if I could sit at the reception desk all day staring at the floor, the pattern would probably start moving if you stared at it long enough

    Beautiful !
    I have only one question.
How many man hours did it take to produce and mount?

sorry, was browsing gallery and mised some of these replies…

theres no protection at all mate. just white vinyl base. completely covered then the cut black vinyl placed on top.

to be honest, "this one" doesnt take anywhere near as lng as the individual striped floors. they can take days with teams of 4-8 fitters. I recon this was about 8-10 hrs from memory.

thanks everyone for the comments. much appreciated.
