  • Rally Plates, cheap as chips

Went to watch a road rally at the weekend and was amazed to find that the organisers had purchased white vinyl that had the sponsors details, the date and the car club name sign written onto the white A4 sized vinyl with cut vinyl lettering.

I have organised road rallies in the past and to run 70 cars you need around 200 A4 rally plates to cover all competitors and officials vehicles, I used to pay, 4 or 5 years ago, around £150 for silk screen printed plates.

The club is rumoured to of only payed about £70 for the cut vinyl ones.

It seems hellish cheap considering all the work cutting and weeding, not to mention the cost of material.

Some people must be desperate for work.

I think you summed it up in one word there…..DESPERATE!

Only too often have I lost work to the cheap as chips cowboys, but I still hold my price regardless, if you don’t make a profit you can’t look forward to tomorrow. (:)

I always tell the customer to “Get your stuff from them before they go bankrupt” And hope the message gets to them for next time.

How often have you heard the words……….I had so and so do the job but I am not very happy………………etc etc!

I too was asked to quote for these type of stickers
    They wanted 200 with an 03 date, 200 with a 04 date, 200 with a 05 date
and…….200 without any date and they were quoted £140!!!!!!!
With the different screens etc how can it be worth it?

I’d rather have the day off than work all day for that sort of price!

An old boss of mine used to say ‘Don’t under value the product’ which is probably the only thing he ever said that was worth saying! 😀

Good God. Are road rallies still legal? I used to compete on them years ago but thought they had been banned and all competitive motoring events moved on to closed stages and circuits. They were certainly dangerous enough.

We have a customer who uses loads of these, but we usually get our tame screen printer to do them for us on shaped white vinyl panels. We have just had 150 made for £129.00 and passed them on, with a mark up for ourselves.

They are not normally something we would do ourselves in cut vinyl but I have to say that if things were quiet and I had people standing around drinking tea I would consider doing it that way, although I would charge a bit more for them.

Yep road rallying is still very strong, especially in Wales, I often see stickers on cars saying ‘leave road rallying to the welsh’ 😀 many people who have moved into Wales still try and stop our very popular sport though (:) , Road rallies that I have run in years gone by, we always had screen printed plates for around the same money you are talking about.
