  • "The Vinyl thread", Add to me please!

Posted by Robert Lambie on 16 February 2008 at 18:45

This may appear to be a bit of a pointless thread at first but over the next couple of weeks i hope this to be of great help to many.
I wont just stop at vinyl… but for now. Vinyl is first. 😀

What i would like is that anyone, be it supplier or sign maker to reply to this thread with a make of vinyl "not" already listed within this thread.
I am NOT just talking in the UK but world wide.
the size of the vinyl company is irrelevant… we just need a name and a i link to the site if possible please?

    ill start…

    3M
    Avery
    Oracal
    MACtac
    Metamark
    KPMF
    Grafityp

I know there are plenty more… so can anyone add to this list please?
as i said, it does not matter how big the supplier is. whether it be a small company using re-branded vinyl. please list them.

thank you very much for any help/replies…

How will you know if the vinyl is made by someone else and re branded?

  • Robert Lambie

you dont really mate… to be honest. most vinyls are made by others at some point in the process but the basic vinyl name or manufacturer is all i am after at this stage.

it is just the brand name we are after rather than individual series codes of vinyl.

i.e. "Oracal" is all thats needed,
rather than "Oracal 751C" or "Command Form Wrap".

    That’s why I commented that it’s a minefield Nick.

Never mind rebranding, that goes on as we know, but how do we know whether the face film is not made in some monster factory somewhere, then sold on to lots of other companies who apply their own adhesive and backing paper, then flog it to us as their own. The vinyl business is very incestuous and, true or not, I was once told that there are only three manufacturers of calendered face film in Europe. Cast is a different story.

But, according to our glorious leader, that’s not what he’s after, so carry on folks. I watch with interest. 😀

    I think its 4 in europe john…

I am not looking for simply blank carrying paper named vinyl.
i.e. i buy in unbranded vinyl and put it back out the door as UKSB vinyl.
i mean actual branded vinyl. i know about the cheap alternatives rebranded but rather than getting into all that i am just looking for Sign making vinyl brands for now.

i used to buy direct from Coburns in the USA, now Germany i think… but i cannot find their official website. anyone shed any light?

oh and im not asking for thesr brands so i can buy from them. just that i did and do from coburns. :lol1:
