I currently supply my banners printed on metamark MD-FL500, fold over the hems and use oracal banner tape, and punch with brass eyelets.

I’m happy with the price I am charging, and most of my customers are.

I am looking at offering a ‘cheaper’ alternative, aimed at the single use/short-term/indoor usage… or those who just want it cheaper.

Using a 440gsm banner will save a little cash, but I am planning on reducing the labour time by using banner cross weave tape, no need to fold over the hems. I think I can reduce the cost by about £10 Sq/M to what I am charging now.

    Does anybody use this method?

    If so is much quicker?

    Never used it David.
But if not hemming I cut another small piece of banner material and punch eyelet through two pieces to give extra strength.

I’ve always hemmed banners… think that’s how they should be.

But then if its going to be used indoors, or for a day or two, what’s the point? 🙄

Trying to remain competitive, but still offer quality… just somewhat reduced.

I’ve always hemmed banners throughout the years even when I used to hand paint them.
I have never really gone for the cheap end of the market, but as you say for one or two days there’s no point. Take a look at supermarket banners..none of em are hemmed, hence the cheap price.

If they want em cheap, then don’t hem is the answer…but I still can’t comment on the cross weave tape 😉 😀

    Hi Guys,
for economic crisis busting and short use banners, we use these little widgets and then do not fold, tape and hem.

Unhemmed banners are pretty crappy…no matter how ‘temporary’.

they look cheap, feel cheap, perform cheap…sags between the eyelets / curls.

Even cheap Soyang 440 looks good if hemmed right!

I get 25mm banner tape at £8.50 for 50m (REALLY high bond stuff).

Hemming by folding is quick enough (1m every 30 seconds or so).

As they are dirt cheap to make (not disclosing on open forum) anyway, to save a few minutes and under a pound worth of tape for the average small banner isn’t going to break the bank!

oracal banner hemming tape is cheap enough…
25m i think for about £4.50, buy in as part of an order and loose delivery.
50m 3M hemming tape comes in at about £8.50 so pennies in saving, but you then have the delivery costs.

robert horne have started doing a banner product. its a self-adhesive thick polyester on a roll. no hemming, just right round the edges. its thick and tough, really reinforces banners and will prevent tearing. i only use it on big banners though, but it works a treat.

if folk will complain about pennies its hardly worth losing the hem, there for give them no hems. looks naff though.
