  • Projecting banner supplier?

Posted by Andy Gorman on 10 October 2007 at 19:59

I need a supplier for projecting banner poles and banners. Ideally the ones that have a tensioning doolally thingy at the bottom, like a spring….you know. Because I’m seeing the other sort without the springy thing falling off buildings left, right and centre!

    Ta.

banner box or hampshire flag co,

have used banner box, (check out pavilion theatre in the portfolio forum, oct or nov 05) they’re still up, good quality stuff, only thing i wasn’t overly happy with was the powder coating or paint didn’t extend around the back of the fixing plate, and was easily chipped, so paint the back with white hammerite (smooth) to avoid rust runs on white walls, and keep it handy for when you fit it ! otherwise a very good and easy system to use.

not used hampshire flag, heard good things, and they’re cheaper i’m told, but i don’t know about quality.

By the way, as I mentioned above, I’ve seen a few of these falling off buildings lately. All the ones I’ve seen have been quite big, like 3m high and maybe 700mm wide. Are people making them too big or is there a problem with them structurally? Has anyone else seen any fall off?

There’s a lot of wind resistance on something that jutts out like that, don’t you think? One of the ones I saw had ripped the bolts out of the wall bringing half a brick with it!

Andy I have put a few of these and the ones with the bottle screws at the bottom tend to need a revisit now and again to retension also i have had one that pulled 10mm coach screws straight out of the wall 😮 but the banner was put on a wall at the bottom of a hill and it was a proper wind tunnel. I have started using the ones with the spring doofers at the bottom and they seem to be a lot better

the banners always give way before any pole problems….we double hem, double stitch the banners………use tamtorque fixings 😀

HI Andy, we’ve had numerous high winds strong winds since i put those ones up (1200 x 600), up to 70mph i believe last autumn, i remember walking up there to make sure they’d not blown off.

i was probably ott when i used 26mm diameter (M12 thread) rawlbolts sunk 6" into the wall, but i’d sooner that than have to replace them !!
