Problems with patchy ink print about every 0.5m
Posted by Gary Husband.. on 22 May 2015 at 18:37Would anyone know why I have a re-occurring ink patch about every 0.5m, i’m using a Seiko colour painter W 64s, it looks at its worst when I print dark colours I was told it had something to do with smart pass but I’ve set smart pass to low and it still happening. Any hints or tips? 😀

What media are you using as we have had similar problems with md5. Only noticeable on solid colours

You got it md5 sent one roll back a few days ago because same thing but worse. I was worried I might me. Thanks for the reply 😀

We have 2 X Roland xr640 …. problem was same on both machines. We then put in a grafityp equivalent and the difference was huge. I used to be a massive fan of metamark but to be honest I have lost so much faith in them I am reluctant to buy.

Interesting… we have a colour painter, although we havent run much MD5 through it.
We did try a roll of Vion from William Smiths, printed fanatic, only thing is with the laminate it’s considerably thicker than MD5 but has a brilliant glossy finish.

I’m very happy with the MD5 but I agree, there seems to be some variability in the products. We stopped using MD100 about 12 months ago because of what seemed to be an increase in the thickness of the product. Odd!

Out of interested Jason, what material did you switch too?
I wouldn’t know where to start looking, having been a long term user of MD5.

Hi David, just using MD5 now. I can’t see myself moving from this. It is an excellent material, we go through rolls of this stuff every month with no problems. I haven’t had the need to use the 100 so can’t comment on the material at the moment.
I’m not sure what I would use instead as this material works perfectly on our Rolands.
