Hi can any one help please sorry may have posted this in wrong forum
Had this Xerox 790 for 4 years now & stopped the maintenance contract after 3 years as it never went wrong and we was paying a lot of money for nothing! Could have bought another printer with the money spent.
Any way we now have a problem with some solid coverage that there is most definite banding. Not on solid Black. Xerox don’t want to know!
Has the printer had its day or is there a fix for it?
    Thanks in advance.

Do you mean a Phaser 790???? colour laser

Can you explain by what you mean as banding?

How long since it was serviced?
If it is a Phaser 790 how old is the drum?

Have you done a test print trying to print blocks of solid.

    Cyan
    Yellow
    Magenta
    Black

To see if one colour is letting you down?

    Hi
I have just printed a A3 page with almost solid Green background. Some images vertical & some horizontal. All have dark & light lines going across the page and don’t get a solid all over green. Have printed this job before, was much better then.
The drum was changed just a month ago. 3rd one this year
All test of single colours look fine
Last cleaned the machine about 3 weeks ago
Just trying it from another PC on the network with the same image

If you take out the fuser unit drawer. you may need to remove 2 screws.
There is a plastic like trough. On the left you should see an alignment arrow. It moves up and down this takes any excess toner which is then sent back to the waste toner unit.

This can be removed by undoing the 2 screws and releasing the plastic holder this is just below and slightly to the right of the toner carts in the cart holder behind front door. If that makes sense.

One common problem with these unit was the BTR2 clutch (bias transfer roller). It was prone to breaking down and thus faded prints especially on orange / red images i seem to remember.

Im not an enginner but electro / mech background. Have had these units in all makes Magicolor330 Epson c8000 Phaser 780 xerox DC4 so know some about them.

How do I know if the clutch is slipping?

Reset all the colour options first from the menus. there are calibration adjustments. I would reset those first and re boot the printer. If you are getting ok prints on single colours may just be settings need adjusting. I don’t know the 790 but the 780 had options for colour correcting.

I’m not sure about the clutch how to check it sorry.

I’ve heard that adding “noise” to the image can avoid banding. “Noise” is a feature in most photo editing programs. worth a try?

    good luck,
