  • Problem with Summa D120

    Hi,
I have Summa D120 which since few days start moving the vinyl aside (left)
everytime when the vinyl moving forward and backward.

I have cleaned the punch rolls and the sleeve as good as I can. But nothing changed.
I have swap the left one and the right one punch roller (if some of them is threadbare the slip of the vinyl will change the direction) Nothing changed.
I have opened the machine and tighten the sleeve as much that I can. But the result remain the same.
I have noticed that when i move the left punch roller two positions to the right (not to hold 1200mm vinyl, but 1000mm vinyl) there is no visible slip. But when I place it in the middle (to hold 610mm vinyl) the slip of the vinyl is still there.
Is anyone have some ideas what could be the problem and how can I fix it,
    I’ll be very grateful
    Thank you in advance

Make sure your vinyl roll is tight and the edge you line up with the machine is cut square.
Also check your "pinch rollers" are contacting properly, they have a small knob at the back that raises and lowers the roller.
    Oh, and welcome to UKSB!

Your vinyl roll holders may be out of line on the back causing the material to go through at an angle.

From your post I assume you have checked the above items already and have a little technical knowledge on this cutter. I assume you use mainly 1200 or 600mm width materials like most signmakers so it is possible that the grit/pattern on the bed rollers has either worn away (or infilled) on the more commonly used rollers. This will result in the sort of slippage you mention and is not easily resolved since depending on cutter, its a fairly major job to replace these. Check them out with your finger to see if there more "tread" on the 1000mm position roller. If you are feeling brave it may be possible to dismantle the cutter and relocate this roller into the 1200 position?

If its just clogged try the sticky tape method of cleaning the grit roller ie lift the pinch roller and place a long strip of clear tape or vinyl sticky side down below the pinch roller and drop carriage to pinch onto the grit roller then (with cutter switched off) pull tape back and forth to remove debris from depressions of grit roller.

    Hope this makes sense.

Thanks to everybody for their replies.
I have manage to fix my problem yesterday. Solving the problem was simpler than I expected. When the problem occurs I have clean the pinch rollers and the grit ones as Colin Crow recomends in his reply with sticky tape. Byt yester day I cleaned it properly, wherever was something dirty stuck in the grit roller with pin and also take off the pinch rolls and clean them with spirit.
Everything is working just fine (for now).
I realize that in some point I’ll have to replace the pinch rolls, I found a similar ones but they are quite expensive, about 35 pound each.
Can anyone advise me from where I can find them on good price.
Thank you ones again to all of you.
    I’ll introduce myself very soon
    Regards
