Problem with OKI 5600 Printer, help Please
Posted by Stephen Henderson on 23 November 2008 at 17:48I recently run a transparency sheet through my OKI printer, and lost it. I found it melted round the fuser unit. Needless to say I had to buy a new one.
I know now (thanks to the forum) that when using OBM you need to tell the printer that you are using labels, is this the same idea, do I need to tell the printer that I am using something else and not a transparency sheet.Any info on this would be great, as I need to make some Plates for the hot foil machine, hence the transparency problem
Thanks.. 😀peely replied 16 years, 10 months ago 6 Members · 10 Replies -

Sorry I can’t answer your question but is this the printer recommended by The Magic Touch?
Did you have success using the OBM transfer paper?

Hello John, Yes this is that printer. The problem is TMT do not tell you what settings have been changed to suit whatever materials, and I did have success with the OBM it worked out gret, after the 4th attempt and help from Paul

Labels 2 is what I use on a standard, unmodified Oki 5600 and 5800 for transparencies with absolutely no trouble at all.
Even if you had it set to default it shouldnt cause the issue you had.

Thanks again Paul, I thin that I will try that, just hope it works fuser unit £50. a go
Cheers, I will let you know how it goes later

Just another quick tip. We always let the TMT paper or transparency come out the back on the straight paper path, rather than on the top of the machine – if that makes sense.
Cheers

Having a straight through path may well be one of the reasons that TMT have chosen this printer as their preferred printer.

Hello Guys, I have done this with the straight through, that’s when I had my problem with the transparency melting to the fuser, I have since spoken with TMT who are going to send me a listing of the settings to use for this printer. I did buy it from them and there was a sticker supposed to be on the lid with those settings, but mine did not have one.
Have any of you put a transparency through the 5800 yet, and has it gone without a hitch. -
Sounds like you have a bogus machine. We screen print as well as signmake and use transparencies all the time. We just buy cheap transparancy material from Staples and use the printer settings for heavy stock and straight path through the machine and don’t have a problem.

As Brian said it sounds more like you have a faulty machine rather than a one that hasnt been setup for transparencies. Our numberplate films are transparencies and go through no trouble at all, even when not uysing the straight through path.
It always puzzled me somewhat when companies claim they have adapted the Oki to run transparencies, if it couldnt do it out of the box then why do Oki include a Transparency weight setting in the options?

We had this problem with our C5200 a few years back, we went through several fuser units, and finally put it down to a a faulty thermostat.
You can clean the unit after its cooled down, providing none of the rubber roller has come off in the process.
We are now on our 4th Oki printer, the C5600, this one has been the best yet, funny really, because we took out the 3 year extended warranty on this one ?!! 👿
