Problem with GSXPLUS plotter, not matching up – help please?
Posted by Margaret Ryan on 22 October 2014 at 19:15My plotter is playing up. I have had my plotter packed up for a couple of months whilst we move premises. After setting it back up and changing the blade it is very slightly missing.
When I do a job it doesn’t match up from the start point. For an example if i do a circle or square the blade does end up in the same place where it started from, So i have to cut the little bit it hasnt done.
Like I said I have changed the blade, i’ve even put a little bit of 3 in 1 inside where the blade goes but it hasn’t really made much of a difference. I’ve unscrewed the little black box where the blade goes and that seems to be ok and moving freely.
Does anyone have an idea what I can do to fix this. Really cant afford to call spandex out. Currently using omega 5 software.

Have you re installed the software in a different PC?
What you describe sounds like your software overcut and blade offset settings are incorrect.

I have the same plotter but I’ve never had to change the offset etc to be honest, The only settings I have in GSPlot is the speed setting that’s adjustable. Make sure you have the correct standard angle blade fitted as it could be a 60 deg blade for thicker material. Mine is a std 45 deg blade.

If you remove the blade holder and look down in the hole where it goes you should see a little notch which makes it rotate, is it exactly at a 90 degree position (i.e. at 0 degrees, or 90 degrees, or 180 degrees, or 270 degrees)? If it is slightly off this could cause the problem you describe, so you need to carefully force it in the right position (or dismantle the whole holder and re-set it there).
Also, make sure that the blade sits properly within the blade holder, as sometimes it’s possible to position it incorrectly.
Be very careful as you do all of this, I take no responsibility for any damage! If you’re unsure, call Spandex and let them do it, expensive I know but worth it if it gets you working again.Regards

Hi George, don’t think this would be an issue with this cutter as this is the basic swivel knife model. No theta belt on this machine.

Good point Jason, I forgot that the gsx has no theta holder.
Might then be a couple of different problems that cause the objects not closing.A very good guide would be the user manual, you can find it here:

We had a similar problem when cutting out text using 3M material, in the end we called out a Gerber engineer to sort it out. Do you have a maintenance contract with Spandex?
-
Is it doing it just on the cling film or also on normal vinyl?
If it’s just the cling film, try putting a new blade in and reducing the cutting pressure. -
No unfortunately I don’t have a service contract and its a brand new blade. Haven’t tried any other material at the moment.
How much is a engineer visit these days from spandex? Just what I don’t need starting out .

Have you checked the blade offset as John suggested? Just because you didn’t have to alter it before doesn’t mean you don’t have to now. Is the plotter set up on a level surface & feet adjusted correctly if it’s been moved?
-
As far as I am aware it’s a mechanical issue, we ditched this plotter many years ago as it was the base model and you couldn’t really adjust it. I’d recommend an Envision if you are using an Edge. Not sure call out fees as we have service contracts on all of our machines but I’m guessing it will be approx £150 with the first 1/2 hour free plus parts?

We have an engineer coming out next week, I’ll check call out fees for you if you want me to?
