  • Problem with Blank spaces in my prints? Help please?

I am experiencing a strange problem with my printer today.

I was sent a pdf file to print from. I can view the file and it looks fine on screen, but when I print it out at actual size there are a number of blank spaces all over the print – it’s as if someone has placed a number of large white rectangles at random all over the layout.

When I run a small test print at 40% of actual size the problem disappears completely (whereas I would have expected the blank spaces to still be visible albeit smaller in size).

I tried re-ripping the file – the the blank spaces are still there in exactly the same place. I requested the file be re-sent after re-saving but this is exacly the same.

Printing the file at 98% of actual size and the problem is still there – though the blank spaces are in a different place.

I’ve never come across anything like this before. Anyone have any idea what’s the cause is

have had this happen found it was, masked images and transparencies and Versaworks struggled with it. I opened the PDF flattened the transparencies and resent it as an EPS

    Thanks for the advice Kevin.

I have tried opening the pdf in my version of signlab but it is corrupting the file. I’ve been sent another file since my post but haven’t been able to try it yet as I am at home.

If it is to do with transparencies, I don’t understand why they disappear when I print at 40% of actual size? This makes me think it’s some kind of memory issue with the RIP?

believe its something to do with size the file was originally made, so if its made say A4 @300dpi when its blown up to 4 times the size @75dpi the transparencies do not convert correctly. I don’t have any proven facts of it but that was the conclusion i came too

I had similar in Flexisign when importing some PDF’s.

I get around it by opening the PDF in Corel and save as an EPS

    Hope you get it sorted.
