  • problem with a bad egg in signlab rip

Posted by Peter Normington on 13 September 2007 at 23:14

Sorry its really the wrong forum, but i wanted to attach a file..

I spent hours today, drawing up and modifiyng some artwork supplied by the customer, only to find signlab threw a wobbly when ripping it,
I spent another 3 hours trying to find out why… its this bloody egg!

There were hundreds of elements to the drawing, so pin-pinpointing the culprit was time consuming,
I Know the egg caused the problem, but dont know why? anyone want to give an opinion?
Is it just my set up or does this egg give a problem to others?

    Peter

    Thanks Nick,
but If you can rip it, it will print OK
I couldnt get past the rip, it was taking forever, and the control consul, was just showing thousands of lines saying "fence point screening"
I did get the problem once before, and cadlink were looking into it, but then it seemed to be down to a spot foil colour from the edge pallette
    that was causing the problem.

I have attached the cdl file (the egg is really odd if you wire frame it)if you have the time to see if that rips
but it was the same as a pdf in my set up.

    Thanks for trying though

    Peter

    Peter,
I’ve just printed both images using the SignLab Rip, both printed exactly the same. The cdl file seemed a bit odd in as much that it was reluctant to move when I picked it up on the Signlab page, is that because it’s a bitmap?

    Peter,
How was the illustration created? Has it been changed to a vectored image from a bitmap, could that be part of the problem?

original was a corel draw file exported to a pdf and brought into sl
I also tried exporting as an AI but still the same result

I will have to give cadlink a call it must be a setting peculiar to my set up then.

    Thanks

I sometimes have problems with Corel files imported into SL, you can just copy and paste from Corel into SL by the way, no need to export as AI etc.
Fonts are usually the biggest problem but some vector images have SL working for ages until I just close it with the windows task manager.
I don’t have SL print though just the vinyl pro version.

Stephen, I find that copy and past is not always good
but can normally get the file into corel one way or another
