    Hi guys, i have a mutoh 1614.

It seems to print slower on large files with full coverage and i cant think why.
I have the settings on graphic, 8 pass which is not the highest quality. Normal prints, the head runs from one end to the other without stopping but ive noticed on larger jobs the print head has a second or so pause. Could it be a buffering issue?

Im using onyx 11 and i have a pc dedicated just for the rip. If there is a break in the print it seems to then speed up for a while until it hits full coverage again.

    Thanks

Sounds like buffering to me, we get it with our HP too. I don’t think its necessarily the RIP, just that the printer can’t process the file in time for the next pass. In the past we’ve put more ram into Novajets to try and help but most machines these days seem to carry plenty though I don’t know about your machine specifically I’m afraid. It’s never really been much of an issue in terms of print quality though.

    Thanks for the response mark.

It makes sense what your saying, i just assumed as its a fairly good size printer 1614 and a top brand that it could cope better. It does not affect print at all just production time. Luckily (or unluckily) i dont do many prints more than a few metres long but in a larger production house this problem would surely be unacceptable.

Used to get this when we used an old laptop for the rip and print (granted on a Roland). Changed to a new desktop a while back and never seen it happen since.

Well its a fairly new hp tower so if that is the problem…….then i will just have to put up with it.

It sounds like the data isn’t transmitting fast enough to me.
I would try a different network cable both for the computer and the printer (or usb cable if it’s usb).
Then start looking at your network configuration for bottlenecks in speed.

    Hope that helps
