    Hi everyone

I have just introduced myself in the say hello section and
could do with some help deciding which way to go when
    starting my new business

The intro post is here http://www.uksignboards.com/viewtopic.p … 293#157293

The main problem I have at the mo is the space considerations
although I had seen pictures of various machines on the web I
didn’t actually realise how big some of these "beasts" were until
I visited SIGN UK recently and you see that you not only have the
front to work from but ya have to get round the back as well to
    change inks and roll etc.

Consequently I have come the conclusion therefore that in
the limited environment available that I can only fit in a 30/36"
machine. Also it would have to be an eco-sol machine as I
don’t think there would be much room for ventilation.

My main concern is the possibility that (initially at least) because
I am starting a new side to my business that the machine may be standing
"idle" for a few days at a time so what machines are better prepared
    for this ?

The two machines we are most interested in at the moment are these

    Roland SP-300V
    Rockhopper 38

Whilst cost for a new machine is not a major issue, if a second user
one of these models or something similar was available that maybe
needed converting to eco-sol max inks what would be the possible
"pitfalls" of buying such a machine ?

So finally has anyone therefore got any recommendations on a printer or
printer/plotter to "fit the bill" ?

    Thanks

    Gary

    have you considered an edge?

the problem with eco or solvent printers, they need to be used regularily to keep the heads from blocking. An edge will not have those issues.

    Hi Shane,

Thought you would be in bed by now (midnight over there ain’t it ?)

Thanks for the reply but don’t think the edge is wide enough
also don’t know about running costs perhaps you could enlighten us?

P.S. Any date yet on when the hand will be fully "functional" 😉

    Regards

    Gary

    quick reply based on above…

i would recommend the Roland SP-300V.
either brand new or ex-demo type machine. i personally wouldnt buy a printer from anyone second hand. after sales support etc is a must with thes type of machines.

    Hi & Welcome

I would also recommend the SP300 (I have one myself)

I have limited space, and most of the time, don’t go round the back, but lean over the top to load media 😮

I have days where I use it for printing, then a few days where I use it as a vinyl cutter only – I have even had it switched off for 4 or 5 days, due to having too much laser work, subli work to do!

But when I switch it back on it cleans itself, and has been fine – I have had no ‘clogging’ problems at all.

There are no odours – so ventilation is not an issue at all.

    Thats my 2p worth.

Good luck with whatever you decide.

    Cheers

    Martin

Hi Gary, I only suggest the edge because of its footprint being so small. I don’t have one but plenty here do, they would be better to advise you on operating for and againsts. 😉

The hand? Physio tells me not to expect too much for at least 4 weeks but will be 8 weeks at least before they will consider stopping physio 🙁
