  • Printer problem, can you help?

Have a problem every now and again when printing the first 6inchs of vinyl. The head touches the vinyl and leaves marks as shown in the picture. Ive got the vinyl clamped down with 3/4 clamps. Am I heating the vinyl up to much before the print starts?

    Please see attached picture.

    Thanks
    Matt

Yes, or your pre heat is a bit high and the vinyl wrinkles slightly before it gets to the print head.

    Hi Matt

I used to have the same thing with my Versacamm, I found I got scuff marks when I hadn’t spooled enough vinyl off the back, so the machine was pulling the vinyl through. Made a right mess! Can also be due to heat too, causing ‘cockling’.

my JV3 does this……….high spots because the vinyl wrinkles…..mine seems to be caused by damp backing paper causing the wrinkles.

Always use the take up roller, this helps to pull the substrate flat and taught.

    Try releasing the media brake.

Slightly OT: That man has a rather peculiar looking left hand, and he seems to be wearing waders instead of wellies?
