    Hi all,

I’ve been asked to quote on printing and installing self adhesive wallpaper for a regular customer of ours.

    The wall is w:5230mm x h:3610mm.

    I’ve never done a wallpaper job before so wondering how you guys would;

    Charge it?
How long it would take to install?
    Digital media you would recommend?
    Overlaps/Butt joins?

    Thanks in advance,

    Chris

    Hi Chris,
I’ve just installed my first effort at this & almost identical size.

I initially got the Metamark WallTex MDTX2 but had some issues with it on my latex printer, although as far as we know according to the manufacturers it was a dud batch. Anyway in the end I used Emblem SOSTBAR Sticky Textile Removable Banner (That’s what they call it but it is a removable textile wallpaper)

Printed great & fitting was pretty straight forward once lined up carefully as it’s a fairly dimensionally (is that a word?) stable i.e. doesn’t easily stretch. I did make sure that the wall had been primed/sealed before hand with pva as recommended to avoid any potential issues of paint coming away if I tried to re-position it during fitting.

I did consider butt joining but having heard the occasional story of shrinkage I plumped for overlap of approx 15mm & it worked fine. Although you obviously can see the overlap if you look closely it’s really not an issue & both I & the customer were both very happy with the end result.

It actually took me on my own approx 5 hours on site but i am not the quickest & was being probably over cautious but wanted to make sure I didn’t feck it up"" 😉 Also If I had had the space at home to lay the prints out side by side to align & mark them up it would have saved me a good bit of time rather than struggling on their boardroom table!! :shake:. But you have to make do with what you have.

As for charging, that’s up to you how much profit you want to make out of it I guess. I know I frequently seem to undercharge when I realise how much time is involved though!!.

Good luck with it, hope it works out ok for you.

    Here’s pic of my effort

    Hi Myles,

Your effort looks brilliant! especially as it was your first go at something like this. Hopefully i’ll manage to get a similar result.

I’ve always been wary of Metamarks digital media as it’s caused problems for me in the past that i have never had with any other media. I think it’s something to do with the backing paper and how it doesn’t lay flat. Looks like the emblem material did the job for you though.

Thanks for the response, you’ve been a great help 😀

We’ve never had a problem with Metamark.

We’ve used a Mactac self adhesive wall paper, printed well, but we found the print scuffed easily when installing. This was printed on our Solvent machine.

You could use a high tack vinyl, something like MacTacs WW300, and then laminate with a textured lam?

We’ve tried the new Metamark wall vinyls and we didnt have scuffing issues like with Mactac.

Overlap the joins, you could print the overlaps on both sides, without overlap lines for aligning.

We’ve had issues of the paint coming away from the wall & sticking to the paper when repositioning, which then caused big patches that wouldnt stick again.

Good effort Myles doing that on your own, I’d have have another pair of hands to help out.

Depending on the image. We covered a huge wall in a gym in a day, but made sure the joins were solid colour so alignment wasnt an issue. If its a photo, it’s going to take a bit longer, my guess 5 drops, 5hrs, call it a full day.

    Hi David,

Your advice is greatly appreciated, thank you. Never occurred to me use high tack and we keep this in stock.

    Have a great weekend!

    Chris
