printed graphics – charges
Posted by Gary Davis on 6 October 2004 at 21:34Hi
A quick question regarding digitally printed graphics on vinyl.
I have in the past only done cut vinyl graphics for vans however a few customers have expressed an interest in printed graphics, im not talking vehicle wraps, just the odd full colour logo, or photo on flat panels. My Q is how much could i charge for these graphics p/mtr?
I realise there are regional variations and various other factors affecting pricing however im after a rough guide, perhaps a percentage on top of what you charge for vinyl work? Thanks for any advice.

I assume that you are not printing this stuff yourself. In which case the best thing is to ask whoever is going to supply your printing what they will charge you. Prices vary wildly, even within a local area as some suppliers simply charge more. I’ve been quoted between 25 and 75 squids a square metre for laminated print. What you sell at is dependent upon how much you would like to, or can, earn for the job.

how long is a peice of string mate…
it is definately down to size etc…
lets say you the customer wants an image 1 metre x 1 metre?whats it gonna cost you?
go to superwide and pay only £17.50 for the print, but the rez is low quality
go to raccoon and pay £30 but the quality is high…if its a vehicle with large recessed areas… you will need vehicle wrap.
what type of wrap will you use?
avery ez at £18 a metre
grafitype at £7.60 a metre +laminate
KPMF at about £7
and so on… just depends on the wrap you want to work with…now.. if you have it on wrap and good images, you will want it laminated…
again.. take this up with the printers..
remember though.. use an equivilant wrap laminate!as you can see from that quick run down.. prics go up and down depending on the application or choice.
my advice is find a wrap you always want to use on vans etc.. get hi-rez prints from a good source and keep to them. they will give you a price for that material and laminate with hi-rez prints, then add your mark-up.
remember though.. if its a wrap vinyl your not applying as normal and should price extra for that also.. time/labour ?
hope that made sense? even i was lossing myself there 🙄

Rob, not too sure what you meant, but I do prefer Corel to Illustrator 😀

You guys have it real good , low cost solvent based graphics in 1 yr vinyl goes for as low as 10 quid a sq here to the end user!!! The big jobs never come to ppl like us , it’s real cut throat here. Upcountry in Johannesburg , digital print goes as low as 5 quid per sq meter!!!!!!!!!!
Thats why we really avoid the billboard /mass production of raw graphics market and concentrate on fisnished articles where the print/print cost is merely a part of the job.
Most small guys go in at 20-25 quid per sq to the customer , that is raw print on a reasonable substrate.
Print and cut goes for about 40 quid per sq (small multiple cut stuff , not big die cut graphics , that stays at 25 quid)
We charge about 10 quid more per sq for cold premium lams.
Very small decals can go to about 70 quid per sq meter and small digital decals that are die cut and domed go for up to 500 quid a sq meter.
Artwork and prep charges are seperate.
I charge a hefty premium on “small” raw print jobs or jobs that waste a lot of material , we actually charge for the material used , printed or not rather than a price per sq m for the graphic.
Like if you order a 850 x 2.2 m print for your own popup , we use a 1.37 m wide roll and you pay for 1.37 x 2.2 rather than .85 x 2.2 as there is nothing we can do with the unused banner material.
The first question we eve get asked by customers re digital prints is how much per sq m which is really an answer we cant give.
I only print at 720 dpi on just about any job barring banner or mesh , which I do at 450 dpi . The only overhead a printer has on higher resolution prints is time , the ink coverage or usage is about the same at most resolutions. -
thanks for the replies, realise it was how long is a piece of string question but has pointed me in the right direction and a few points to think about. cheers
