  • Pricing help – 14m x 3m banner to building

Posted by Peter Johnson on 22 November 2017 at 12:22

Having looked at a few of the pricing topics in this forum, I can see that even though I’m covering my costs and making profit, my invoicing is woefully low compared to others I have seen.

I’m actually comfortable enough to turn work away, if people don’t want to pay the prices I charge, but I still don’t want to lose business.
My work is equal to (and in a lot of cases) a much higher standard than my local, longer established and larger competitors, who are charging much higher prices and still getting continuous work.

So, I wanted to pass the details of a quote I have been asked for and see how far out I am compared to what I would have quoted. As I don’t like being laughed at, I won’t say how much I would charge :blushing:

Customer wants me to design a large banner for them. I have already have the logos, fonts, Pantone colours, so just the basic design.
They then want me to take down and replace an existing 14m wide x 3m tall banner on the side of one of their buildings.
There is limited space to work in (approx 2.5m from wall to fence) all the way down the building.
The banner is currently fixed directly to the side of the building and not in any form of framework (so advice on tensioning/levelling would also be appreciated).

I would be outsourcing the banner.

Any other job details required, please ask.

    Thank you in advance.

hm, I’d quote the cost of the banner and show design / set-up separately, then as it’#s such a big job, quote for at least two people, maybe three, I’d choose a line on the building (brickwork should be level) start at one end and fix, then work along the top edge keeping it taught and level, once it’s hanging you should be able togo to the bottom corners and do each, keeping it taught, then simply fix the remaining eyelets.

Of course, it’s easier said than in practice!

    Quick reply.
Due to limited space and size of banner, and hight it will be up. You will need to include a scaffold tower which will need to be moved as you move along.
The banner in normal pvc will be heavy and awkward to handle. So having it rolled up and unraveling as you work along is best.
You will definitely need a second pair of hands helping.
Without going into it all. Get the price for the banner and apply your markup. Then give an hourly rate for the removal and installation. Remember to include the tower hire costs etc.
