Hi All how do you guys price up digital print jobs?

ok so a customer asks for a price for say, 200mm x 2800mm 7 qty full colour, on 7 year film with laminate

so I priced this at £40 per sqmtr 0.200 x 2.8 = 0.56 x 7 = 3.92 sqmtr so round this upto 4 sqmtr @ 40.00 =£160.00, £25.00 for cutting them up, & £25.00 for sorting the artwork even though there artwork was supplied correctly.
    so total quote £210.00,

so when the job is run, it comes out of 1370mm roll with alot of waste, I can’t wait to see if we get any other jobs come in as it has to be printed.

so how do you price for the waste, or am I just being tight because I’m getting £40 per sqmtr anyway and the waste materials is only about £15 and what about the waste at the start and the end for the laminator / printer, I’ve attached a file to show it

    Thanks Gary

    Hi Gary,

On a normal schedule we would just nest the job with other work, therefore minimising any waste, but if it’s a rush with no other prints to run then like you say it’s just waste.

    Hi
1 option is to charge per linear meter the waste becomes there problem to fill, 2nd option is to have pre-made artwork of safety signs, (i had TFL FORS lorry signs ready to print) and 3 rd option is you swallow cost which with no ink isn’t a fortune, you can raise your price by £5 sqmtr to cover it

I work to the linear metre pricing similar to kev states.
However, I am looking for £65+ per linear metre laminated.

I will always do my damndest to get as close to £50 per "square" metre "unlaminated" as i can.
    £35-40 sqm of banner.

this is my mind set from the off, it will be things like repeat customer, multiples of the job etc that will take to start to pull me back down on price.

If we have nothing to nest it with we just swallow the cost. Another option is to stock narrower rolls for occasions like this. We carry the stock but more often than not we decide to just accept the waste and save the white and use it as cad vinyl.

    Cheers
