  • Pricing a Large format Print Job

Hi Everyone, wanted to pick your brains on how your are pricing large format jobs.

I know alot of people quote based on different methods, but just wanted some feedback on pricing.

    For e.g.
    8ft x 4ft ACM sheet with a full colour print + lamination
(Here you are using a full sheet)

8ft x 2ft ACM Sheet with full colour print + lamination
(Unless you are have an off cut, you buy a full sheet for this job, but only half is required. How do you charge the customer for the material bought in as you lose half sheet)

Assuming artwork is supplied and we fit prints to ACM sheet and supply to client to fit themselves.

    a)
do you have a flat rate per sq/m price (if so what is your rate?)

    b)
    – Markup on the material first
    – Then have a fixed charge for the print + lamination material
(what are your rates for this option)

also, does your price per sq/m cover all labour involved to laminate, cut, mount and finish the print to the board?

Look forward to hearing from you

    Regards

We use clarity for our pricing (ducks for cover)…

My advice is always first sit down and work out what your operating costs are to keep the doors open and the lights on and go from there.

Suppose you need to make £100 a day to keep the door open… if you’re making £10 on each 8×4 signboard, you need to sell 10 a day to break even… 7 if you make £15.00, 4 if you make £25.00. How many can you sell/produce a day?

We don’t mark waste up, it’s given at cost in the job. Any decent chunks we keep and then sell onto the next customer, the smaller bits we chuck in the skip, it’s cost us nothing.

Mark up your substate, your media (should be higher if you’ve a printer/laminator to cover their costs), then it’s time in turning that all into a sign board. I bet there’s very little difference in the time to mount up an 8×4 and an 8x2ft sign.

    Hi David,

I have already worked out my outgoings and what i need to keep the business running on a daily basis. However, just wanted to know generally what people are charging for large format items below.

    Standard full colour print
    Laminated Printed
Corex with print + lam mounted
Foamex with print + lam mounted
ACM with print + lam mounted

I know everyones prices will be different but just curious to know what and how other sign companies are charging

Also Whats your thoughts on Clarity?
We originally had a sales rep come out many years ago but found it very complex at the time.

I think we need to get a good system in place now.

Shopvox – anyone used this and any feedback on them?
Or any other software anyone recommends?

    Regards

We also provide digital/litho print, a few regular contracts, and get recurring orders every few months, even years, so clarity for us is a god send, as we can quickly requote jobs, locate artwork, specifications etc.

On occasions when I do need to work a manual price out, for laminated print, I tend to use £45-50 Sq/M as a ballpark figure.
