Hi guys, I got a customer quibbling over £50 for artwork layout…

please can you give me a price for this just to get my head straight, I’m on the verge of telling him to shove the rest of his fleet up his kyber…

Take design out of the equation, assume hes given me an A4 PDF basically coloured in with a felt tip so a rough idea. I have to set the artwork up for cut, run the vectors etc etc.

so it’s on a 7 year product, no printing all cut and 6 meters of 1200 width, tape, weed etc etc plus the prep, needs full wash and de contamination.

in total 2 hours layout, 2 hours cut tape weed and 4 hour fit all solo. Done over a weekend to avoid being off the road.

If iv’e left anything out please let me know… just want an opinion of what you would charge, jobs already done and its number 2 of 8 vehicles. The first was a berlingo. There are 4 different types of vehicle so they will all need a different layout.

    cheers

I would think about £350 -£400 for first off as per picture but would give a discount if I was doing 8 depends on vehicle

    As above at least £300.

To the punter it looks simple, however if it’s done in cut vinyl, there’s 4 colours I can see, Green, Blue, Black and Red.

Their name is two colour, the NIC logo 2 colour, so actually a bit of work involved there.

Did you itemise the design on the quote/invoice? I just put the whole job as one price, worded something like ‘Design, Production and installation of 4colour cut vinyl vehicle graphics to 1 White Mitsubishi Showgun’

Yep I charged 300 for each, but that was without artwork layout…or design.. This was a last minit addition and no artwork was available so I had to make it up on the day it came in… Popped £50 on the bill, you would have thought I had over charged by 500 the way the customer jumped up and down… Ce’st la vie… Shut up and do the rest mo!

    Thanks guys

£50 is reasonable, especially as a Lastminute.com job.

I’m confused as to how you got a vehicle to come to you for fitting, without any artwork?

I had a brand new car delivered from the factory direct to me without any contact from the client. Then I got a call saying they want their car wrapped and it went from there.

    So it happens.

Yes bud… cleared it all up now though, popped round to see him, in fact he didn’t know I did commercial photography, so ended up getting more work and got the extra nifty to boot!

I must admit, I went in really heavy on him, but I used his own methods to corner him.. I basically said I could go on doing stuff for nothing for a while but eventually I wont be there to do it! So do you want someone who’s flexible and has all your artwork and products ready to go or do you want to keep playing the field every year or so? I’m sure he would spend more time sourcing and negotiating new suppliers that paying the extra would be worth.

I pointed out that so far we have had meetings and visits totaling around 10-12 hours.. I just asked him what he was worth hourly and did that come to more or less than I was asking for?

money paid, relationship saved, in fact I think he respected me more for mot rolling over….
