So what’s in Avery surface cleaner because most of the branded cleaners were over 90% IPA at one time, I must admit I haven’t bought any for many years, IPA for cleaning just about everything.

If your doing wrap work then you would need to follow the manufacturers fitting procedure which normally tells you what to use for vehicle prep, if you don’t follow them to the letter & there is a problem latter on you won’t get any help or support from the manufacturer.

Personally, I prefer…

Industrial mentholated spirits.
This is not the purple type, but the "clear".
we would buy 25ltr drums of it for about £35

we switched our supplier for several reasons and they supplied.
Isopropyl alcohol
This is pretty much considered the best all rounder for wrapping, but i still found Ind. Meths. to be the better. it removed ink pen and the like effortlessly. Where i find Isopropyl struggles.
both the above are great all rounders for keying into the surface to remove wax and polish from clean cars.

if you buy by the 25ltr drum be sure to ask for the lid-pump and not just lid version. it makes dispensing the liquid into smaller spray bottles much easier.

Vinyl manufacturers such as 3M and Avery stipulate their own brands.
Avery Surface Cleaner – Paperlinx
3M Surface cleaner – Wm. Smith
If using 3M vinyl it is important to use its own branded cleaner to prevent voiding your media warranty, and follow their guidelines on preparing/cleaning.

my input:
1 wash with baby shampoo (not me, the vehicle!)
2 wipe down with iso
3 final clean with panel wipe

clean a whistle!

We’ve had really good results using white vinegar!
We first saw it mentioned in a Justin Pate wrapping video.
As we have a catering supplier locally, we picked up 5 litres to try it out.
Mixed with water (70V/30W), it really shifts contamination on paintwork.
We then wipe with Isoprop just before any vinyl is applied.

We now use it around the shop on a daily basis, it’s very cheap, works a treat, the only downside is we all spend the day with a craving for chips 😀

+1 for 3M Surface cleaner – We were having all sort of problems when we got into wrapping until we changed our vehicle prep to this stuff, the problems disappeared 😉
