    Hi Guys

Can you recommend a PPF film and a supplier. Ideally one that can also supply training.

    Thanks

    Warren

Not personally used it, but Hexis seems to be highly rated, self healing etc, and also do the training.

William Smith – Avery: Pure Defence PPF
Hexis UK – Hexis: Body Fence PPF

I am sure 3M do one and from memory, I think Smiths do that too because I was sure they did courses on this a few years back, but couldn’t see it. worth asking though!

    Hi Warren,

We do TONNES of this and have been for about 6 years now so know the market generally well.

One thing with PPF training is that the training courses are only really taster/beginner courses and shouldn’t be expected to walk away as a fledged installer so to say.

XPEL do a good course and probably the best of what’s out there but you will have to practice as soon as you get back, I think they are also now offering an advanced course.

SUNTEK/Lumar also offer a good course but personally I’d say they are more geared towards film sales than training.

Premium shield offer training also but I’ve not heard any feedback about them.

Other thing to consider is who your going to use for material and ultimately template software.

We scan all our own vehicles and build our own database so we aren’t restricted in that way and have tried every material going and would say for quality that suntek is a more forgiving material but also has an amazing level of gloss finish. XPEL is a thicker material and would be my go-to after suntek. Premium shield I didn’t rate as found it a very sticky/friction film to install.

XPEL has the best database of templates followed by premium shield and then suntek but suntek have just employed someone in the U.K. to scan vehicles and template them so that database will start to pick up better from now on. XPEL charge £150 per month for the database and Suntek charge a £300 deposit for the USB key which is refundable if you hand the key back. I think premium shield is the same as suntek.

One other thing, XPEL is the market leader in terms of brand awareness so when you have customers that know what PPF is come to you, a lot of them would request XPEL and I think XPEL are back to the game of not selling material to you if you haven’t done their training course.

Sorry to rabble on but hope the above helps.

    Hi David

Thanks for the info it’s much appreciated. We have done some PPF already on a few vehicles with good results but not a full wrap and have one coming in. We’ve been looking to get a trainer in to our location as a one to one intense training. As this side of our business is picking up a lot I want my installer to have some more training to help overcome those tricky areas and improve speed.

I’ll look in to these brands as mentioned and thanks again for taking the time to share you experience.

    Cheers
    Warren

That’s great feedback David. Just finished this wrap today. I presumed the PPF stuff was free hand off the roll [emoji85] templates are interesting.
What are you guys using recommending to protect the wraps?? I seen a car detailer using ceramic polish but don’t know how that would work when you go to remove the wrap later.

We usually use Suntek or Hexis.

The Suntek software deal for templates is good as it’s just the one off payment and then you can use the software as much as you want. With Premium Shield you get a code every time you buy material that only allows you to cut the amount you’ve bought.
