Hi Stephen!
We have had this in the past, whenever we have a customer wanting over 100 A2 posters on 150/160gsm gloss paper we send the job out. I would recommend a company called 1st Byte who have a Digital Web Press that can print A2 if the posters are different or with 500 A2 posters you could also speak to a local litho printer with a B2 or B1 press (if all posters are the same).

i would have thought that would be very expensive….set up costs alone would be huge, to get the origination and seperations

nah.. litho it mate, much cheaper…. Say it was £350 for the printing…£3.50 a poster.
Also, litho will be better then solvent and faster. Also consider finishing, presentation, smell. Although a poster printer inkjet would be litho on quality.
Digital web press would also be an advantage on price.

changed days then dave…………cause litho on a small run of 500 would cost a fortune on a large size 😕

they are film less these days Nik… straight to plate so costs are lower.

oh ok…ive obviously not caught up with litho technology 😳 and what size can they go up too, just out of interest 😀

another question dave….how do litho go about getting the seperations now 😀

the majority is B2… but there are a few B1 presses out there.. again B1 printing will be cheaper then B2.
When I talk to litho’s, the biggest problem with presses is setting them up in register, putting in plates etc., the quicker they get the more output they can do.The weird thing is Nik, being a screen printer we used to have the backup of going to a local litho printer and getting positive film produced as they would have an imagesetter, you can find these damn things these days and most of them are dumped now. Imagesetters also cost a bit of money to run if infrequent imagesetting.
I would like to see a price to print 50 on a cheaper inkjet solution, but does the customer require sun fade protection (lamination etc)
Litho shouldn’t be ignored, although they are making bounderies into the sticker printing market now, they can do it and spray varnsish over the top to protect from fading and die-cut at the same time.

nik.. with regards seperations… its a press of a button… burnt on a plate instead of the UV method as with silk screen – screen making.
As with Litho, the areas of a plate is laser etched or not will attract/repell the ink and thats kinda how litho works.

i wouldnt ignore it either….a company near to me does the same in a huge way….but its not cheap, i remember getting them to crease 25,000 bits of rigid pvc….wow i was very surprised at the costs they charged..anyway ive strayed off topic again 😕

yes, that would be expensive if it wasn’t in one large sheet
