Posted by Hugh Potter on 12 September 2016 at 13:53

    Hi all,
as per the title, I’m looking for recommendations on a fairly heavy poster paper and also other phot type papers that are suitable for use in the HPL26500 latex.

    thanks in advance,
    Hugh

    Hi Hugh,

We currently use PaperGraphics Metro Satin 150gsm and 250gsm on both our 360 and 26500, both of which PaperGraphics have profiles for. But have also previously used Pyramid’s Simply Poster paper 170gsm using a standard HP poster paper profile, but we tweaked it slightly to suit, which I can send you if you want to try it. Pyramid’s paper is dirt cheap to be fair if your looking for a basic poster stock.

Photo papers unfortunately (as far as I’m aware) won’t print in latex printers due to the coating on the paper not withstanding the heat. As long as your client isn’t expecting super high def photo prints, we’ve achieved great results by simply printing on a high pass rate and gloss laminating the poster prints.

    Hope that helps a little!

    Pete.

    Thank you Pete,
I’ll give paper graphics a try and see how I get on 🙂

The photo paper is for personal use.. The wife wants some of our wedding pics blown up and framed, as well ad the ones for the phot album.. I knew I should’ve kept my little Z2100 printer!! I can probably get away with laminating, but the sating may be good enough. Luckily I know the guy who bought my printer so can prob get full photo quality done if the latex doesn’t cut it!

    thanks again,
    Hugh

Hi Hugh, just noticed this thread in my notifications…

Did you ever manage to source a photo paper or speak to Papergraphics?

    Hi Peter,
I did speak to papergraphics but I don’t recall the outcome, I didn’t go ahead with this as in all honesty, it was cheaper to pay one of the big internet printers than to buy a roll, do all the set-up and print for myself.. My wife took the decision that I was better earning money than spending twice on a roll than she could get them done for!!!!

I have done a few photo poster prints (shorter term stuff) for customers which i just did on s/a vinyl, more than good enough for the short term..

Not too sure if you’re still interested, but I use SIHL 3687 TRISOLV POSTART from APS.

Not too expensive for a roll and the results are quite good. I think APS also do a self-adhesive version as well.

thank you peter, I’ll keep that in mind.

I just found a 1500wide roll of 220g satin photo paper which I had forgotten about when I made my last post, I printed a dozen or so ‘saucy’ glamour type photo’s very successfully on my latex with this. came possibly from Colourbyte.
