Positioning Graphics on Astravan etc
Posted by Gary Davis on 1 April 2005 at 15:10Hi
just wondered what was the ‘norm’ for placing graphics on the new shape astra van, inline with the swage lines or with the bump strip?
ive seen both done but not sure which looks better if either, if inline with the swage line it seems to look odd unless the van is viewed at a perpendicular angle to the panel.
just after others opinions really?
are there any others to watch out for like this ither than astra and vito?

Hi,
I always go for an eye view…
No tape measure, just what looks right.
As you said if you go with the panel it looks crooked .. so just line it up how you think it looks ok stand back and see if it is pleasing to the eye.
Cheers

Im not sure if there is an answer to this question as it stands because I have found it really depends on what graphics are going where on the van. As Ian has said I find the best way to do these is to tape all the graphics on the side of the van then adjust then to what looks right by eye. Probably the best way to do them if the customer has deep pockets is to wrap them!!
If I get one of these to do I always point out to the customer that I may have to put the graphics on by eye to get the best possible look if they are happy with that then things are fine and it saves them comming back to tell me I have put stuff on squint!!

basically the same as Ian and Martin you have to see how it looks and we always explain the van shape to the customer, I cringe when a cutomer tells me it’s an astra 😥

im with joh on this one… the nylon door bump strip, or the lower sillfrom wheel arch to wheel arch. basicaly i would measure up say 12 inches from the bump strip… then, run a two inch masking tape from one side right through to the other of the van. stand back and see its straight.. as its masking you can lift-lay to your hearts contented… then using that straight, take ALL your sizes from it. 😀
please remember that some new bump strips are oval and odd shaped, if this is the case use the sill… 😉

Mostly we would do it by eye on an astra but sometimes its handy to go with the long spirit level on some difficult vehicles (mostly end up going with the main plastic trim line that most vehicles now have)

Astras – Pah!
You haven’t experienced true misery until you have done a Vito.

yeh I go with the bump trip everytime.
Running a piece of 5mm tape (red) for eyeing up down the length of the van helps alot.
Should be aaahhhhhhstra not astra!!!
