I am looking at few choices of used plotters as my main (and only) cutter

    Graphtec FC2100-120 (48″)

    Roland cm-300 (30″)

    anagraph 75 (30″)

What are your thoughts? Any alternate suggestions?
Keep in mind that this is for a start-up business on “shoe-string” budget

    Thanks

Graphtec and Roland are both good units, I have owned both.

My choice is the Roland. Cost me a service call for a service ($150) and that is all I’ve spent on it since buying it new in ’96. Works 6 days a week, just about every week..

Only comment I’d make, most people only sell them when they start becoming unreliable..

    Cheers

Graphtec is offered from from a reputable signshop for about $1000 US + shipping, no warranty except assurance that it is in excellent working condition

Rolland from a local dealer for $1400 US with 30 day warranty and I can pick it up.

I believe that more than 80% of the work I can accomplish woth a 30″ cutter.

I am leaning towards purchase from a dealer (it is safer) but still wanted some opinions

mine is only a 24″ plotter and it will do 100% of my work

i got mine from graphityp at a reasonable cost of around £1500 with all the sign software too

    OK I bought a Roland 40″ (~ 100cm) cutter from a dealer. I picked it up for $1200 US

It is a trade-in unit that he has cleaned up and replaced everything that it needed (so he says). This is not my first dealing with him and I have fair amount of trust that he will stand behind what he sold me.

It is being delivered on Monday and I am scrambling to make a layout of my workspace to accommodate it.

In picking out material for everyday use I have decided on Oracal 651 line. I read about some folks having problems with backer paper but it did not sound to alarming to me since I used the product in the past without any problems.

    Any thoughts on that?

Nothing wrong with 651 but I’d go to 551 personally. Not that much dearer, but is a better product for a larger range of applications.

    Just my thought.

Well done on the plotter too, that is the same one I’ve got I’d say.
