please help with this urgent wrap!
Posted by Phillip Jhonson on 9 April 2010 at 00:23i have this wrap to do and have found it very difficult to do the actual install as i mainly do printing. I had a go just to mess it up. Now that i have it i was wondering if it would be possible to wet applicate as i Am only doing a partial wrap on a sprinter. the back and half the sides. obviously i respect this should be done as dry but can i get away with a wet application as i wont be doing any bumpers. i have attached pics.
thanks alot
phillip

I can’t imagine why you have taken on that job with nothing more than basic fitting skills. Do you even have an internal fitting bay?
-
get someone in who knows how to fit…only way if you dont know now.
-
Cheryl
I said I thought the sprinter was a transit till I zoomed in.
must get some noo specspeter
-
Your comments still hold tho Peter …expensive mistake to make … wrap material and not knowing how to fit it….get someone in cos in the long run your customer may come back and want it done again…and again…and again
if there is no other option…jump in and fit it….
I saw a van on the m25 yesterday full wrap and it was popped out and peeling off everywhere….it was so dreadful….it made me cringe! -

Don’t do it wet if it takes in the recess on the sides. It will not stick, will hold water, and will pop out.
If it is just the flat surfaces, wet application will work, however if you used ez apply, you could still do it dry reasonably easy.

Didn’t members spend a great deal of time debating this exact problem and the same van a couple of weeks ago??

yup…

Sorry I edited my first post by mistake.
Dry is the only way to go with recesses, in what way did you mess up Phillip?
and what materials are you using?
If you can’t to it correctly maybe you should consider taking a wrapping course, before making anymore expensive mistakes. Its fine hoping you "can get away with it" but if it does go wrong, it just gets the wrapping industry a bad name when the public see panels popping out etc.
You have asked a lot of questions relating to wrapping, but nothing beats hands on training with an experienced fitter.

Every time I come on this place I see more and more cowboys trying to get into wrapping making a mess out off things asking stupid questions ie can I apply wet no, what material to use? How about you do a bit off research, maybe call a supplier and ask for advice what to use.
The best off it is half off you don’t want to go on a course as you see a whole £400 too much to spend, you’d rather go and bodge your customers
vehicles and give the whole trade a bad name just because you want to make a quick buck. -
Chris you have hit the nail on the head!! Totally agree with you.
It is scary what sort of posts are being posted here!! It is even more concerning that people are responding to them!!??
UKSB is/should be a place where we help/support each other with genuine queries/methods, suppliers, etc…posts that are idiotic should not be answered-if someone needs to even ask the question-wrap wet- I am sorry but there is something wrong…..and it is not just this one….
Sure I am all for encouragement etc, etc,…but if I were to venture into a new area that I knew very little about the first thing I would do is educate myself BEFORE I took on any work, common sense??
This sort of thing is harming this industry.[/quote] -
Hi Chris and Luke…
A bit harsh…I know what you are saying…but blimy…we are a friendly lot on here and we try our best with advice or just not reply at all if we are too busy or fed up with saying the same thing over and over. People have to start somewhere, and unfortunately this person is learning the hard and expensive way. I hope that he calls me and asks for me to do the work for him properly if he is around my way.
How about you put your pictures up…(that includes you Phillip and others) your comments would probably be taken more seriously. -
Well said Cheryl ! If someone on here needed to paint a dibond letter I would give as much help as possible to help them in getting the job done, we all need help and advice at some point, just when in comes to wrapping its a bit like the magic circle, however many wrap courses you go on your never get the 20years experience that your need but we all need to start somewhere dont we ?

Very valid point cheryl to all people whether asking for or dispensing advice
-
quote Jason Xuereb:Thats a fairly deep recess theres a recess in a recess.
OK
so how many recess’s can you get in a sentence 😀 😉
-
I take it Luke Lansdell and Chris M Hooper Must have started from nowhere, probably made no mistakes and are now genious millionaires!! People like that shouldnt be on UKSB as this is a place where we help each other rather then critcising others for what they want to do. everyone should have the right to learn and or achieve what they want. Why get offended for something which doesnt even concern you!!!!!! 😕
-
Stuart as I said I agree, its just really funny soon as someone talks about wrapping its like its something only special people can do ! We all know how helpful a course is but that wont teach you in 2 days how to be a wrapper.
-
True say Richard I.ve been getting the same vibe is well that you have to have a very special nack from birth and if you have never tried it before then dont do it. if people want to have ago then they should!!!
-
Cheryl,
I am not intending to be unfriendly or unhelpful, and if it came across that way I apologise. Yes you are right hopefully Philip is around your way so you may be able to help with the job but really its too late now- that’s the point- if you or I have never done a wrap before, you and I both know that we would not quote the job and try and do the job without any experience in wrapping and I am not just talking about wrapping it could be anything…that will lead to the job more than likely being done incorrectly and to a poor standard thus giving our industry a poor reputation. I also bet the price is on the bones and the job will run at a loss if someone like you was asked to do the job.
Richard,
I think you missed the point…I would also help someone paint if they asked me how. If someone asked me if they could wrap a car wet I would say go and do a course or go and help the pros as an apprentice for a while. As you said how are you even going to attempt to help someone wrap a car if they need 20 years experience…?? It’s all very well being helpful but there are some requests that should raise alarm bells?
John,
I prefer not to have my mug shot posted on the web. If people do not take me seriously well that’s their choice. Would you take someone seriously if they were shouting at you in a photo?! Is it a rule to have our pictures on here? I will check.
Stuart,
Please do not take this personally. I just think it is a ridiculous question to ask that’s all.Luke
-
What I am saying is lets not take some questions too seriously…or get annoyed about stuff…Philip asked a question…tell him to get someone else to do it cos is obvious that it is too much for the guy…
a badly wrapped van could always be an ‘in’ to get new business…approach the customer and ask if he is happy…how you would be able to do better…give them your number etc etc.
Where is Phillip anyway?? he might have chucked in the trade anyway…he hasn’t responded to anyone about if he has sorted it…or maybe hes been frighted off….
Phillip?….I think its nice to see who you are talking too…just personal pref.

Lets look at the facts you have done no homework what so ever on wrapping and you expect help from others for free, are you a paid member erm no.
Yes I did start from somewhere when I left school at 16 I went into a job and spent 11 years getting to where I am from running a company to now owning
my own. Will I pass on my knowledge to someone that will guarantee to uncut everyone and won’t even go on a training for course a mere £400 NO!
I have seen all your posts asking the most basic off questions, do yourself a favour and get someone that knows what they are doing in. Don’t just expect everyone to show you everything for free
