  • PLease help with a PC60 and a new Laptop!

Posted by Cath Jones on 29 May 2009 at 19:08

    Hi everyone,

Please could someone help me set up my PC60 with a new laptop, we previously had it running on a desktop with WinXP through a Parallel port and was working no problem. We have a new laptop running Windows Vista ( this is the first problem.. ) it’s also only got USB ports.

I have tried using a USB – Parallel cable but this is not working, I understand that the best way to connect the printer is to use the express slot and a parallel port, can anyone give any advice or has anyone done it and got it to work?

I am also unable to find the drivers to download anywhere online so would anyone be able to advise me where to go to download these again?

The other question is whether I will get it to work with Vista…

So many questions but I would be really grateful if anyone can help!

    Thanks
    Catherine

    Cath,
You can try a Belkin F5U002 USB to Parallel lead. I’ve used this with the PC60 and currently on a PC600 with no problems at all. It should self install with WIN XP so i imagine Vista should do the same. It will create a virtual printer port with a number and you just select that port to print from rather than the LPT parallel port.

I’ve tried the express card route but couldn’t get that working.
I know it might sound silly, but have you selected the correct port to print from when the usb-parallel cable is plugged in?
    Alex.

    Hi Alex,
I am not very good with Vista, so could you tell me how I check which port I am printing from please?

    Thanks again,
    Cath

I have just tried manually loading the drivers on Vista and no joy as you said, can anyone categorically confirm it will not work just so I know whether to go back to XP!

Don’t really know about Vista as i still don’t use it, but the XP driver can be found here:-
    http://www.rolanddg.co.jp/en/down5oad.html

that will install the PC-60 printer in your printer and faxes list.
In order to select the correct port, go to printers and faxes select the properties for the Roland PC-60 and then ports, then select the virtual USB port to print to the PC-60. It will be named USB001…2…3…4 etc
Like has been said before the driver is XP only so that might be the root cause of your problems.

    Hi Chris

I downloaded the main printer/cutter drivers for vista 32Bit from Roland.com and all worked well with cutting, only issue was the print side that I had to use the windows printer drivers, apart from that it’s working great no problems.
