  • Plastic Wheel covers….

Posted by Phil Craddock on 29 January 2010 at 15:21

I have a customers job in that requires covering their hard plastic and slightly textured rear wheel cover (4×4) with an all over base color which then needs trimming back to a shape before adding white-out text to.

What type of vinyl should I use for longevity and to make sure it doesn’t just peel itself off??

    thanks in advance, Phil

    Hi Phill

I’ve had 5 4x4s with spare wheel covers and had my company advertised on all of them. Base colour in black with siver lettering…all in 5-7yr vinyl. don’t really see a need for cast.

    cheers matty

I suppose just as long as it get s a good de grease should be OK – I’m running a test with some Oracal 651 to see how it holds up.

Important to get them clean if they have been on the road – also fit the vinyl dry to increase the initial bond as the texture may cause problems if fitted wet, especially at this time of year.

Direct 4×4 do most makes and sizes. Remember you will need tyre and wheel size, there not universal!

hopefully the 651 will do the trick – also testing some Image Perfect vinyl – but the wheel cover does need a dam good de grease and clean before application.
