photo’s to be honest ! while no different for doing a layout, i think it looks beter if you can show the customer what the finished work will look like, they ust don’t seem to get it when you show them a white outline,
that said, i still do a fair bit of mail order, and not everyone can send me a photo, so i do use the outlines !

hay hugh, how did u get into the mail order? do have a web site u sell from? or advertising?

sometimes its impossible to get photos
if you have the outlines, you can take orders over the phone etc. you don`t have to move from your chair.
you`ve just got to becareful as sometimes the outlines are slightly off, badges are placed in different places etc.
buy from impact, they`re the best.

i started out doing stuff for mates race cars, started to put some of the stuff on ebay etc, don’t do much with ebay right now but still do all my club decals and stuff for racers which goes mail order,
a website is on the cards, but i’m more concerned with getting out and about right now, literally walkinginto places and introducing myself / leaving a card. -
I use photo’s were possible, as Becky said the outlines aren’t quite right, filler caps in the wrong place etc, however they are OK for when you haven’t got a photo.

I think it comes down to what you are doing most of the time. Because I mainly do commercial vehicles then I tend to use vehicle outlines most of the time, even when I have a car to do I will rech for the outline CD first. I just tend to make the outline colour as close to the car colour as I can.
When I do cars for people I find quite often I haven’t got an outline for that model so instead of asking somewhere like this or trying to find out what other cars are the same shape I just take a picture and rescale from that.
