  • Photo luminescent window stickers

Posted by John Dorling on 30 July 2010 at 14:14

I have been asked to do some ‘glow-in-the-dark’ window stickers. I was going to reverse print onto clear and then laminate with photo-luminescent vinyl. Problem is, the only white PL vinyl I can find is by Hexis and it only glows on the front. Does anyone know of a material that would be luminescent on the sticky side?

    Thanks

I doesn’t exist to my knowledge.
What you want to do wouldn’t work very well anyway with my experience of the stuff.

Oracal do an excellent new Photo-Lumi vinyl… its the whitest version i have come across and cuts and weeds like regular vinyl. i have some in work and can check if its the white on the rear/adhesive side. would not imagine it is though, but could be wrong.

Never heard of it if it does exist, can’t see a viable market for it tho!

Then again they said there wasn’t a market for black reflective….!!

Just a thought, but are the Phot-Lum window stickers not screen printed self cling film?
if you have a decent amount to do it might be an idea to sub it with a screen printer?

The customer was only asking for window stickers as he thought ‘nromal’ sticker would ‘fall off’ a vehicle. I am now looking to print onto phot-lum and laminate. The oracal sounds like the way to go as it is very white, but is it solvent printable?

Kemco (the link Dave posted) sent me some samples too, pretty thick compared to the oracle but, in the luminosity stakes it romped home a clear winner. the mail came, i went to the workshop and threw the post on the bench, at this point the lights were off and the envelope was glowing it’s bits off!

I’m not sure i did get a price for it and i don’t know if it’s printable but on a glow basis, it rocks.

i have some of the oracle here and really don’t rate it,

do a search (advanced) look for photoluminescent vinyl and myself as the author, i did some photo comparissons,

the stuff from vinyl corp (i think it’s them) is just as good too. thick but will light a room! maybe print onto clear and lam onto the lumi?

    Hi John,

Just been and looked at the Photoluminescent Link, as interested in this myself.. On the product data sheet for the Vinyl it says it is solvent and eco solvent compatible 😀

    quote Hugh Potter:

just tried to find the pages but it looks like (along with the UKSG members area) it’s gone.

Hugh there is a large section on the UKSB homepage (veiwable to only UKSG members.) stating that the UKSG section has been removed for updating purposes.

as for the photo-luminescent post you made… if that is in that section then yes, you will not be able to see it. other than that, it will still be viewable on the boards mate.

    as for the Oracal photo-lum..
Its thinner and easier to cut in a plotter. better to apply and has a better adhesion. it is also much whiter than any photo-lumincent vinyl i have seen or used as most is thick cheap vinyl screened in greenish photo lum ink. the adhesive is also a gummy cheap feel to it…
i am not saying all are, just that any i have used over the years appears to be like this and i have used a good few… also the rigid photo-lum board.
I have a couple of metres i plan testing… will let you know how i get on.
