i know that there are rules and regulations these days for wheel clamping and the need for a special permit to operate…but what about permit parking? a customer of mine was asking about different ways of not allowing people to park on his land as he uses it for customers etc….he didnt want to pay for a clamping firm and i warned him of the dangers of clamping himself….so what are your thoughts?

The easiest & most common way for private individuals to enforce parking is to ‘threaten’ CLEARLY at every entry & exit that CIVIL penalties will be levied for unauthorised parking.

Note that they cannot hold a car to ransom, but a ‘slight’ loophole is that if an errant car is still there when they are going home… the car park can be secured (barrier or chain)….and when the police are phoned to release the captive car the keyholder has gone away for the weekend but forgotten his mobile. To damage the gate or lock to escape is criminal damage.
Or, a little note that a callout charge will be made outside office hours…blah, blah.

Do not however use the word FINE, only courts can issue fines. Private individuals can issue charges or penalties. I have the legal wording for some private parking notices somewhere – will dig it out later.
